Hello! Im from Nebraska, and we all think of it when we have blizzards, and are so thankful we can travel easier and can be warned better. I was in high school in Omaha during the blizzard of 75. It was similar to the 88 on that it was mild in the morning. We were let out of school mid morning, and a few of my friends and I walked about 3 miles home to my house and they stayed to warm up before heading out again. We had a restaurant to sit in for a bit, but those poor children and teacher had no where to rest. What a brave young woman. Thank you for telling it. I feel so bad for the east coast and the lives lost there.

Hello fellow Cornhusker! I was in Omaha during the blizzard of '75, too! Then later that year, in May, Omaha got hit with that tornado. The Midwest sure doesn't play games when it comes to weather. Thanks for watching.

I never saw that episode, but in 1888, Laura Engles Wilder was living in De Smet, South Dakota which was hit by that blizzard, too. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.

You're so welcome. I enjoy digging into strange history like this. On Friday my new video is on an historical figure who was buried four times. I hope you'll enjoy that one, too. Thanks for watching.

Born & raised & have lived all of my life here in Nebraska and this blizzard is still talked about. We lost several of our family members. Buried in several cemeteries surrounding us. Eda & Matilda are buried in our family plot & we still upkeep their headstone. Eda was 13 Matilda 8. They left school after recess headed home which was about a mile north of their school. Eda took her warm clothing off & wrapped it around Matilda, huddled together. It is believed they were stomping trying to keep warm but it was no use against the raging wind & blowing snow. They weren’t found until days after the storm buried beneath snow frozen together on a hillside about 2 miles from their home. They had gotten lost & walked in circles. Their story has always been so hauntingly heartbreaking but also shows the love between the sisters. Eda tried so hard to keep her sister safe. So so so many lives lost that day.

🇨🇦we were kept in our school in the 1971 blizzard just outside of Lucan Ontario. We were three days before we got out. The first night farmers snowmobile drivers couldn’t find the school with food. The next night the army came with Chinese food from a local restaurant.
