Happy Valentine's Day! We all love the Hunger Games here, so I figured we'd best celebrate with my favorite district! Patreon: patreon.com/user?u=108511195 Tiktok: @ luckyleftie Instagram: @ thefourthsaluki
5:09 Given that ballad is set right after the war, combined with the fact that the original hunger games mentions that districts very rarely get to enjoy what they produce & how incredibly poor the people of ten are even 75 years later, I think it's entirely possible that the cheese sandwich Brandy dies eating is the first time she's ever even HAD cheese. It's so sad but it's a BRILLANT reminder that the district system doesn't work! Brandy & Arachnes deaths are like a distilled version of what happens between the districts and the capitol; the food the district's work to make is withheld from them, they attack the capitol for it and are attacked in return. It's honestly such clever storytelling.
This kind of logic can only be taken so far, just on the basis that while the district's never got to consume the luxury goods that they produced the most definitely did consume the base products that they produced District 12 still burned coal, District 4 still eat fish, districts 9 still had clothing Considering the ease of production for cheese, its role as a staple high calorie food stuff, and the sheer abundance being raised around it, and that it can be eaten in a state many other Foods would be considered spoiled, I think it's a bit of a stretch to assume that was the first cheese they ever ate
@@thomaswillard6267i think its entirely possible. The kind of cows raised in Mexico aren't usually the black and white dairy cows most people first think of. They're likely Zebus, which aren't known to produce much milk beyond what their calf needs. Id imagine the capitol requires large amounts of dairy. So unless there are climate controlled facilities used to raise dairy cows I think its realistic to assume the ranchers consume little to none of the milk produced. Especially if the capitol has quotas they're expected to fill
@@Chpmar wait is that actually true? My parents grew up as dairy ranchers in mexico n whenever i visit i rarely see cows that arent the black and white ones, but i guess that might just be bc dairy is a primary export there
@@thomaswillard6267 I agree that it's a little bit of stretch that this was her first-time having cheese, however the cattle and animals they raised were solely for their meat. They didn't handle dairy products, and most of the milk most likely got sent to the calves. I think dairy was around, but rare.
I know for a fact Brandy would’ve kicked major ass in the games if she wasn’t shot by Peacekeepers. And despite the poverty Im still shocked 10 doesn’t have More victors considering they handle the livestock.
I mean we don't know exatly how many victors they have... they could be on the higher side for a higher number district, maby they were just not relevant in the OG trilogy. The tributes do get to eat as much as they want when in the Capital, it doesn't make up for a life time of stravation but it's better than nothing.
@@patfuss8998I think Tanner and Brandy would’ve taken care of District 4. Had Brandy made it to the game she’d be an insane threat. She was bloodlust from the beginning when Snow came in their cattle truck
I think the problem lies that it's probably similar to how the District 12 tributes don't have the advantage of working in the mines as that begins at 18. I've always thought that it's likely that the aspects of animal reading that would be most useful in the arena (wrangling and slaughtering etc) were probably taught to older people of the district and the younger ones probably did the feeling/mucking out side. Cattle especially are big and strong so it's likely that that part of their lives wouldn't start until late teens so that they would be bigger and more able to handle it
A D10 tribute would be likely to win any game where animals are provided in the arena. If horses or domesticated animals are present that tributes survival goes up. Being able to ride a horse in the games gives them amazing odds against a career tribute. Simply having a protein available gives them advantages over all the non-career tributes, horses give them greater mobility over the careers, and an ability to handle hot desert biomes gives them the advantage over everyone. They'll be more likely to survive in hot deserts where water is scarce.
the horrible irony of 9 & 10 being decimated by hunger but surrounded at all times by food is so rage inducing and such great story telling. brings to mind how in the US, we are considered a wealthy country (and its true, our GOVERNMENT has plenty of money!) but more and more of our citizens live in abject poverty. also makes me want to like, bite every single one of our politicians 🙃
One interesting thing to note is that both male tributes from the original trilogy survive the bloodbath. This is the opposite of District 5 where both female tributes survive the bloodbath.
The steaks/stakes are always high when it comes to district 10 tributes. It's unfortunate they can't tame mutts or animals in the arena against other tributes, that would be a cool ability they have to add action to the games.
Yesssss! 10 is my favorite district! I've been waiting for this video and it was amazing! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I really enjoy it! You are amazing!
As a person that's chronically ill there's something deeply disturbing to me knowing that if I was someone living in the hunger game universe I would die before ever even having the chance to be placed in the hunger games
Especially for me as a disabled person who’s been in poverty most of my life I really relate it to my experiences and th inherent flaws of capitalism and society
Yet another amazing analysis! Do you think there is anything to be said about the “rural” districts being the most likely/equipped to rise up against the Capitol and therefore the places the Capitol targets the hardest?
do you have a schedule for your releases ? im really excited for district 11, and would like to know when you are uploading it (no pressure). Its tributes have always been my favourite, and i can't wait for your analysis on it.
Ahhh she is such a good character. In this series fo videos I wanted to do a ton of TOTHG references but they were just a bit to cringe to do all of a sudden so I evoided.
i feel so too. they seem so aggressive and strong-willed once in the games. but at the same time the strongest district 10 tribute wouldn’t stand a chance against a career tribute. we saw this in the 74th hunger games when cato was able to kill thresh
Sure seems like it. Both male tributes from 10 in the 74th and 75th Hunger Games survive the bloodbath. Also, in the clip of a previous games from the film (if you assume the jacket colors are the same), the runnerup was the District 10 male.
