Off course it wasn't worth it not one life is , but the Irish people in the North had no choice but fight against what was happening to them in their own country. The blame is with the British state for all wars in Ireland 🇮🇪.
It brought World attention to the genocide British occupation had in the North of Ireland. It made us more proficient killers. We lacked empathy, emotion when we gunned and bombed who represented British rule on my Island. I would do it all over again.
Respect for what, starving themselves for nothing. They are all forgot about now, nobody remembers them for anything except murdering terrorists. Child killers.
@DML1888 And you know for fact that Loyalists only pumped iron and took drugs??? Maybe, just maybe like me they got degrees in politics, irish language and a few other subjects as well. It will never be a "free" Ireland. Economically wise the South could never afford to take over the North.
facts only reason you got help from spain and france in the war 1776 if not the usa would have lost ,800 years the brits have been in Ireland way before the usa was born the riches of india at the same time was more appealing to the brits than a bunch of colonies 1812 was a british victory they kicked the yanks out of Canada and burnt Washington dc to the ground and the white house truth hurts you I see ha ha

Staring death in the face for 50+ days your body going through different stages from going blind to constant vomiting and bed sores and not breaking for something they believe in they will for ever go down in Irish history

@@user-yv4qx7pw7g Whereas political thinkers like Gusty Spence, Hugh Smyth, Billy Hutchinson and David Ervine saw republican politicisation during the prison protests as a positive force that would eventually muzzle their violence, others, like Wright, King and Curry, saw it as a posing an even greater threat to the Protestant community. For the remainder of their lives they would continue to advocate physical force as the only real option for removing this threat. With the absence of a political vehicle to channel this kind of fear, hatred and commitment to violence, politics and militarism would continue to remain dialectical concepts in militant loyalism. It was to take loyalists another generation before they realised that the real cutting edge of the Provisional movement was its political project. Only then did they move to exchange force for political activism.
There have also been many hunger strikes by members of pro British Loyalist paramilitaries but they tended to be announced loudly but would then fizzle out very quickly, many of them ended after just a few days of fasting which speaks volumes on how much they believed in their cause when it came to personal sacrifice. It used to be noted that whilst Republican prisoners tried to better themselves intellectually by learning languages and studying and trying to pass academic exams, the Loyalist prisoners would spend all their time either in the gym lifting weights or getting tattoo's .
@@Anon54387 Yeah that came after gangs of prison officers assaulted the prisoners when they slopped out. 2 prisoners a week went into the infirmary from the beatings they received. At least they had conviction of their beliefs, whilst Loyalist hunger strikes barely lasted a few days.
My sister and her husband moved from the top of Springfield park to middle ,she has fond memories of it as I do as a young boy , I would often stay there , she told me that they often slept on the floor as there was so much gun fire outside .
I was aware of the Northern Ireland conflict but now watching this newscast I was taken back by the magnitude of devastation and the degree of bloodshed in this religious and political conflict

I don’t know why they would want their children and grandchildren to grow up in the conflict they did try need to be able to have a voice and this was the first step in that process. It was never gonny happen overnight
I'm English so my opinion means fuck all on the situation in the North. But I can sort of understand Brendan Hughes comments. People died or dedicated their lives to fighting for a united Ireland, they never fought for a peace deal. Obviously I don't agree with the violence and atrocities committed by any party in this conflict and I think the GFA was brilliant. But it's easy for me to say, I never had to live in either community. ✌️
How can Adams make that comment when he said Sinn Fein will not accept their doings,it's their choice as individuals,"Sinn Fein will not support their acts"
Adams has fooled so many people for so many years and continues to do so. Look , folks at the end of the day he's (Adams) is still standing! He got to live his life while burying so many others. He claims his hands are clean but, are they?
@Gar Army paper says IRA not defeated Army concedes for first time it did not win the battle against the IRA An internal British army document examining 37 years of deployment in Northern Ireland contains the claim by one expert that it failed to defeat the IRA. The admission is contained in a discussion document released by the Ministry of Defence after a request under the Freedom of Information Act. The 100 page document analyses in detail the army's role over 37 years. It focuses on specific operations and gives an overview of its performance. The six-month study, covering the period 1968-2005, was prepared under the direction of the then chief of general staff, General Sir Mike Jackson.
@Gar Not quite as straightforward as you suggest …. "Although when the retiring Oatley passed on the mantle to an MI5 officer, he had the support of the MI5 Co-ordinator of Intelligence in Northern Ireland, John Deverell, the process faced near-collapse following the death of Deverell in a helicopter crash. MI5 Director-General Stella Rimington was a hardliner who briefed Prime Minister John Major that McGuinness and Adams were IRA members and could not be trusted. *Privately, senior MI6 officers accused their MI5 counterparts of being 'a bunch of idiots' whose efforts had sabotaged the process*."
@Gar A quote from Stella Rimington's (head of MI5) book 'Open Secret' …" Her own assessment of the effect of investigating terrorists is revealing: above all, she writes, it helped foster 'a new style of MI5 officer, quite different from those who had been around when I first entered the service. The modern version was younger, travelled regularly, spoke foreign languages... the new breed was comfortable in Whitehall, sitting on committees and discussing issues with ministers.' *Suave, non-sexist, good at presentation. But not very effective at preventing murderous atrocities*.
Makes u wonder. But lets face it, when Martin acknowledged the (q)ueen, Republicanism was fucked. U cannot change a system. It reluctantly accepts u, and then it takes the sting out of u. One day the Republican movement will not compromise, but not in the last several chapters 😢
They died for nothing . The six counties are still British and always will be . The UVF and UFF along with British intelligence freed Ulster from the IRA. No surrender
@@moggie not they targeted and killed the Ira , sinn fejn and their families . This showed the IRA they couldn’t win and ultimately lead to the IRA surrender.! Combined with the loyalist paramilitaries and British intelligence, the IRA WERE DEFEATED . The six counties are still British and we DON’T have a United Ireland
@@bammy1690 Loyalist paramilitaries were no more than a bunch of unhighly trained cowards wearing balaclavas going out into the street, picking out catholics, and gunning them down infront of their family and friends. They went to the point where a school shooting was planned on a Catholic primary school. Loyalists proceeded to then plant a Pipe bomb [which was thankfully defused] near the entrance of a primary school. Chlorane. Cappagh. Sean McConville. Belturbet. Monaghan. Dublin. The list goes on. They were no more than low scum.
@Diarmaid O'Riordan don't be bitter.. the English have made northern Ireland there own..and doe a bloody good job.. it's time to move on and accept the peacce deal Tony Blair gave you. You got a good deal under the good Friday agreement as most of the IRA was released
Maggie . ..also supported Pinochet who murdered non combatants and was never elected. She insisted he should not be charged with his crimes. She was a truly evil woman
They won long term as their demands were met after 5 months. Also it led to Sinn Fein going from strength to strength. Just look at them now. All of that can be put down to BSs and the hunger strikes as prior to that they were a political non entity.
John Toner Sun 31 Dec 2023 at 07:00 Ex-UDA kingpin Johnny Adair believes the IRA were the most effective “guerrilla army” of all time and admitted he wouldn’t have the courage of the Hunger Strikers. Convicted terror chief Adair (60) has also fondly remembered narrowly escaping jail with his nipples intact after a prison officer attempted to remove his jewellery with a hacksaw. Speaking to career criminal and anti-Islam hate preacher Tommy Robinson on his podcast, Adair was full of praise for his deadly enemies of the past and revealed he would have refused to go on hunger strike for his cause.
