'Hungry' Russian Soldiers Loot Ukrainian Shops 

My entire life I thought that the Russian military were well equipped, trained and fearless. I was sorely mistaken

As an American military Veteran. This is absolutely sad to see. A military force that can’t even supply their own for longer than a week is more or less going to be an absolute failure. As the saying goes. “An army marches on their stomachs, not their feet.”

It's an embarrassment to the Russian army that they can't supply their soldiers well enough to avoid this

my great grandmother told me that in 1945 these people (russian army) that were liberating Poland at the time were doing exactly same same things, not to mention rape etc. Stand tall and strong UKRAINE!

Russia has a deep history of sending their troops to fight with no food, supplies or training.

My mum is from Austria. After the war the country was devided into sectors, British, French, Russian and American. In the Russian sector they took everything and I mean EVERYTHING! If you went into a school for example, they'd taken all the chairs, tables, blackboards and even chalk! To this day you can still see the remains of the Soviets, those areas just look more deprived

When you get hungry, you get hungry. This applies to all peoples throughout the world. On the other hand, I feel sorry that these men and souls ended up in this situation because of a fascist leader in their homeland.

Absolutely atrocious how the Russians treat their soldiers, treat them like absolute dirt, practically kids, and starved kids at that. It's no wonder they are losing the war, logistically they have failed, they have no morale and worst of all, they have been sent into a war they didn't even know they were going too. Imagine that, sending an invading army into a country with no plan, fuel, supplies or food. Pathetic isn't even the word.

Remember, Putin planned in taking Kiev in 3 days... It has been 7 days, they are out of food and oil. That's the convoy of russian tanks outside Kiev is currently stopped, they are waiting for oil and food to be delivered. SLAVA UKRAINI.

As a former “Cold Warrior”, serving in the US Army during 80’s and 90’s, I am absolutely gobsmacked by how ill-prepared the Russian Army is during a live military operation?! I suggested a week ago that this operation could reveal Russian forces as nothing more than a paper tiger, but it was said in jest. Sending an invasion force into a country with only 3 days of rations speaks to how horribly the Russian war planners prepared for this operation. Russia might have some frightening weapon systems, but they are worthless if manned by hungry, terrified soldiers who claim to not know they were even at war. Putin’s Army has terrified no one, it’s hard not to have sympathy for these young Russian men who appear unwilling or unable to fight. Morale among the Ukrainian defenders should sky rocket upon hearing this news. Despite any sympathy I might have for the poorly trained, unprepared Russian soldiers, I stand with the Ukrainians, who are have provided phenomenal defense of Ukraine despite the circumstances of being completely alone on the ground.

At this point, when you do something in a foreign country like steal from stores, banks, and know this is illegal in your own country....you are definitely in the wrong. You have absolutely NO excuse left to say you are liberators, protectors. And doing it in the night and day time. Pointing a gun to store owners and pilaging....this is barbaric. You are not fit to govern anybody, go home.

this is a horrible sight to see, the failure to give proper equipment and gear to people who fight is honestly sad. these are times of war. not starvation and survival of the fittest. no matter what side or country they fight for. the pain and suffering is enough but if it is taken so far to where innocent people are hurt and murdered for no reason, that's a warcrime.

War is so awful. Humans have been fighting each other since the beginning of time. There is nothing honorable about winning in war, everyone loses. War is destructive and brings suffering to everyone involved. I can't imagine being a russian soldier and the desperation they are in and the traumatic things they went through. And I'm sure the civilians of Ukraine will be forever scarred by the things they see. I hope we can stop putting each other through hell just to satisfy an elite group of people who treat war like a game and treat people's lives like mere numbers. Putin can never be forgiven for the what he put both his own people and Ukrainians through. How absolutely horrific the human species is!

Soldiers stealing chocolate and beers is more common than you'd think. The army doesn't supply them this kind of stuff. The Americans did it, the Russians do it, the Chinese will do it -- it's how armies and men are organized all over the world. You can't blame men fighting in a war for wanting some beer and some snickers. I was in the army back in my country for 4 years as a 2nd lieutenant and if I ever had to fight in another country I'd do the same. The Americans did it in Iraq and Afghanistan, though in later stages of the war, fast food companies moved in to serve soldiers at the bases so if guys wanted beer and snacks, they could just buy it. It's not like Russian soldiers can go and buy food with Ukrainian currency in an Ukrainian store.

Many have pointed out Russia's logistics problems, long before the invasion started. Another problem seems to be unexperienced young soldiers with low moral. Most of the Ukrainian regular forces, have some combat experience from the conflict in the two break away regions. And they got a lot of anti armour weapons. Some of the best in the world.

I love how everyone is shocked but look up the history of how Russia values the lives of it's soldiers in ww2.

It's awful what they are doing but sad too. Most these Russian soldiers are no more than boys. They were told they were going on training exercises then told to cross the border and invade or be shot. As you see they didn't have enough food and their tanks ran out of gas. But there were also reports that Russian soldiers were punching holes in tank gas tanks so they wouldn't have to continue

Ukraine is doing a good job of cutting supply lines. Taking away gas and food has hurt them badly. Russian soldiers need to understand that they still have a chance to get out while they still can.

I always thought the russian military was disciplined and well equipped I could not be more wrong.

During the Winter war (war between Finland and Soviet Union) a battle called "Makkarasota" "The Sausage War" happened. The red army gave so little provisions that the soldiers were starving. 8.12.1939 the Soviet troops were gaining ground and were about to seize a strategically important crossroads. During the night of 10-11. two Soviet battalions surrounded the partial Finnish regiment, the fighting lasted all night with Soviet troops attacking from every side. Finns were really tired, they had spent ten days trying to hold the Soviets off, waiting for reinforcements, constantly retreating lowering morale. Then the starving Soviets happened upon the Finnish field kitchen, and the smell of cooking sausage soup (cut up vegetables, mainly potato, with cut up pieces of sausage, still eaten to this day), the soviet troops immediately stopped what they were doing, abandoned their positions, and started raiding the kitchen. Finns were able to use this moment to gain the upper hand and attack back. Finns won the battle. Finns lost 20 and the Soviets 180 soldiers.

Maybe they aren’t as well equipped. But another observation could be that their supply had been cut off somehow, or they’re just taking things as trophies. We can’t be sure unless we were to ask the troops themselves.

Don't judge the soldiers too hard, they are conscripts from the poorest regions of Russia. Not doctors and engineers. Nobody from Moscow is fighting in Ukraine, I'm sure of that.
