Watching a very interesting video about picture stones and then....VIRELAI! ❤ I miss the festivals, I miss the sweet people of Virelai, and I very much miss Martin Seeberg and his Troll-friends. I had the honour of hosting them in my home for a small week, and I look back very fondly on that quite often! I hope that maybe this summer I can take a trip on my bike to Denmark and Sweden... For as long as these kind of trips aren't possible, I am very happy that your videos exist! Thank you Skjalden for these!

Thank you for a really interesting video. Hopefully the remaining stones will be rediscovered and not used for building materials as has been the case with many historical monuments in the UK.

@@TheSaneHatter Not specifically Nick. I have seen many examples of stone which has been reused from earlier structures. Hadrian’s wall is a good example as a ready source of stone reused for newer local buildings.

My go-to channel for keeping up with archeology. I loved the singing. Will definately check out the band.

Virelai is great. If you want more, Martin Seeberg, the guy on the left with the mouth harp, has several other bands as well: Asynje comes to mind as similar with Virelai. Then there's Trolska Polska, which is just incredibly festive. Valravn doesn't perform anymore unfortunately, but they are a more modern take on the music. All these bands were founded originally by Martin, and I personally love them all, depending on the mood that I am in.

@@ajdegroot1980 Asynje, Virelai and Trolska Polska seems like very high quality folk-bands. I just listened to a few tracks from them. It's not a genre I'm listening to currently but maybe I'll get back to folk music some day. I used to listen to a lot of Gjallarhorn and I also know of Valravn.

Enjoyed visiting Viking sites in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. 👍🏻Northern 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. Encountered my double male lookalike as a Bokia cardboard life size cutout in Vastervik 1997.

Look at the video I posted at 3:26 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SZy9HjjVEjc.html), because there it says not Mammen style, but Ringerike style. On the other hand, I think the different viking art style classifications sometimes are sort of bullshit, because they're based on the kinds of swirls and twirls that the entangled beasts make, and it can still end up looking quite similar to the untrained eye. However, with that being said, I think it's safer to assume it's Ringerike style because we're talking about stone carvings.

It's called Vikings Come Ashore, Amon Amarth also uses it in their Father of the wolf video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KwdcFVsmYtU.html&ab_channel=MetalBladeRecords

Did the ancient Scandinavians play the Jews harp or is it too modern? Have they looked in the area using geophysics to see if there is any trace of the stones or maybe any burials?
@Skjalden
@Skjalden 3 года назад
Yes, they used the jaw harp to play music. I don't know if they have used geo radar technology to scan the surface.

@@Skjalden We callm tghem Jew's harp in UK. Have they found any actual Viking ones? If yes metal or wood or even bone I guess. I learned about geophys on an archeological TV show called Time Team.

@@colinp2238 One of the names for it in Danish is also a jew's harp. There has been found one in a building which has been dated to the Viking Age. It was made from metal as far as I can remember right now.
