I remember watching this on tv back then, I’ve always wanted to see it again, I wish Chaka had done even more acting in her carrier, though she had done some..
In the original airing of this episode, on WNBC Ch4 in 1987, the openning scene was Chaka Khan singing "So Close" from the recently released "My Destiny" album
None of the original music, including this take was included in the syndicated or DVD releases due to rights. Sepfanie's solo here, as well as the original openning scene of Chaka Kahn singing "So Close" were cut out because of royalty issues.
The sole detriment to this series so far is how they reinvented Kramer's costume and looks to be matronly. In shar contrast, in this rocker garb she is so so hot. The profile shots are even memorable against the aesthetic background of that era. This move to the matronly was a total fail. She should have rather consistently projected her look in the first series.
Damn, Stepfanie made a horrible career move choosing singing over acting and got nowhere. Took her 10 yrs to release an album no one's ever heard of. The producers really shouldn't have indulged this again after already giving her a 2-part singing story arc in a previous season.
19:31 Liked her as an actress but that song she played for the manager sounded more like a Saturday morning cartoon theme song at best, not a professional one worthy of radio time. Sorry.
This episode felt very choppy to me. I think a lot of that has to do with the Chaka Khan opening number (which is excised on this version) chewing up story time. That said, there was the makings of a good episode here. A real familiar face in this episode in the form of John Hancock who played Pruitt. He was on a LOT of TV in the '80s....AND he's a Star Trek connection! Anywho, I thought Chaka Khan did a decent job acting here. Some good interplay between Hunter and McCall what with Hunter being a bit "perverted" LOL.
