Here's a fun little video of my dog "Hunter" and his first year of life with us. For more of hunter check out hunterthebasenji You can also follow me at myleschiu #basenji #basenjis #basenjidog
I've been thinking about getting a Basenji, but I've seen some videos of them howling/shouting and they seem pretty loud. Are they silent most of the time or are they noisy? I really want one, but those screams discourage me from getting one.
I'm glad to see Basenji's picking up in popularity over the years. Around a decade ago they were hardly known outside of Africa (or at least not well known in my area).
My Basenjis name is Rachel. She has a sister named Monica and Phoebe and a brother named Joey all adopted at 2 months old. She brings joy and peace to our household ❤️
Ok so I came across your video and this dog is adorable!!!! Also noticed your from Toronto. Curious as to where you got the dog from, because I have been on a huge look out in all of Ontario for the Basenji dogs and it's been hard to contact some breeders. Let me know :)
My basenji enjoys cuddles every now and then, but they tend to also enjoy alone time. They can be in moods and need to be near you all night or might just sit across the couch from you. He’s an amazing companion though! Just research before getting a basenji they can be a very stubborn dog at the worst of times. 😂
i have two. when it's on their terms, they're quite affectionate. :) but they can be lap dogs, as well as free spirits. but they are aloof as well. just let them come to you when they want to. don't be so demanding. :)
Anyone know where to get a Basenji? I’m working from home for the indefinite future and run 4-5 times a week so I would like to get a Basenji but can’t seem to find any, specifically in/around Maryland.
Go to the Basenji rescue website BRAT. They have a dog listed in the state of Maryland. I have gotten my dog Ruby from BRAT 8 years ago. She is a wonderful dog 🐕. I have had 3 Basenji dogs since 1995. I wouldn't get another breed. I love them so much. Good luck.
Basenji. Where are they at? I'm loving this breed. My lifestyle isn't perfect for one, unfortunately. If I was self employed from home, I'd strongly consider one. Hearing that they require someone to be around
I've been looking for a basenji for a couple weeks now. All I've found are links to dead pages, email address that aren't in use, or people saying they've retired from breeding... :( So I might have to buy one long-distance and have it shipped. GRR. :(
How much was he? I'm finding a big discrepancy in pricing and I want to make sure I don't send money to some random just because it's cheaper than the rest and end up with nothing
I had a basenji - he actually looked exactly like Hunter. It is kinda eerie. Every dog is unique, but mine was very bright and was house trained very quickly. Shedding was minimal - and we lived in Florida and southern California with him. I will say, they get into everything. He would chew through the bathroom garbage and dirty laundry - so you need to make those 'dog proof' and you really need to keep a clean house as a result. They are sight-hounds so I'd never go out without a leash unless it is a fenced in place. If they get loose they can run for miles and they are fast. My basenji had separation anxiety so it was a real headache to go out without him. As a result we never were successful with crate training him. While they don't bark, basenji's can make a wide range of noises such as yowls, screams, and yodels. So when you hear they are "barkless dogs", don't think that means they are silent. When we would try and leave him at home you could hear his yelling outside the building. He learned pretty quickly and he was pretty obedient so he never climbed onto tables or stole food but I've heard of much more "mischievous" (destructive) basenji's out there. I think they are a great dog for someone who spends a lot of time at home or who goes running every day.
Yes. Only pure breed tho. I have a basenji of my own and he is AMAZING! you should definitely look into getting a basenji. However they can be very naughty seeing as they are independent thinkers. Good luck!
