Hunter Valley Steamfest is Australia's premiere steam train heritage festival. Held in Maitland, NSW, Australia, over an April weekend, it is non stop steam, diesel and heritage railcar action from start to finish.

The 2023 even saw the 35th anniversary of steamfest celebrated, and a return after a four year hiatus due to covid-19 and flooding in 2022.
The feature locomtives fro 2023 were Transport heritage NSW's 3801 and 6026, and 'The Picnic Train's' R766 and 5917. The rail motor society was also a fearure of the festival this eyar, with heritage CPH rail motors conducting train tours.
It's not just about the steam trains however! Diesel locomotives were also a feature, with Transport Heritage NSW's 4201 and 4501 assisting their locomotives.
The highlight of the event is the 'Great Train race' which features four steam locomotives running side by side from Waratah to Maitland. It is a great spectacle which always draws a huge crowd.
Train shuttle rides run all throughout the day, taking passengers around some of the fine scenery you will find in the Hunter Valley.
