Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi. It has been serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 1998, although the manga has frequently gone on extended hiatuses since 2006. Its chapters have been collected in 36 tankōbon volumes as of October 2018. The story focuses on a young boy named Gon Freecss who discovers that his father, who left him at a young age, is actually a world-renowned Hunter, a licensed professional who specializes in fantastical pursuits such as locating rare or unidentified animal species, treasure hunting, surveying unexplored enclaves, or hunting down lawless individuals. Gon departs on a journey to become a Hunter and eventually find his father. Along the way, Gon meets various other Hunters and encounters the paranormal.

This amazing subversions of expectations by the end. The bad guy turning good, thanks to having humanity defined for him by a homely blind girl (looking into her, and finding this amazing person was just about treated like garbage), and is slowly trying to figure out how to make his presence a benefit to everyone (human and ant) and a bane to inequality. The good guy, been sold to us as this amazing paragon of strength and morality......suddenly taking a hostage to give himself an edge in the fight (doesn't matter that it's not a living hostage), Netero had info Meurem wanted and held it secret so the ant couldn't/wouldn't off him in one blow (taking his head instead of a leg then an arm)

The evil guy slowly becoming good The good guy using underhanded things (taking a hostage in the form of Muerem's name, the bomb in his chest) to win the fight All of this narrated by the actual king of the NGL, a Kim Jong Un type of person who actually survived all this, his body double taking the fall while he was away.

This just prooves that no matter how strong the enemy was, man made devices were still far beyond them and could have easily wiped them out, nuclear bomb attack could have easily wiped out king and his whole army if a full blown war was to be happening

HUNTER×HUNTERとはだしのゲン、連載してる雑誌も制作してるアニメスタジオも全く同じだという事実。そして、共通するシチュエーションやはだしのゲンと相似するキャラも少なくない。 …ジャンプって実ははだしのゲンの頃と全く変わってない。

The whole situation was handled not too badly by the association. A whole domination shift threat, and the "only" losses were one country's population and another's leadership, no costly full scale war broke out, no terrible international problems arose. Punched above their weight class, ended it with the best tool for the job. Hunters did not steal their position.
