animals arent as viscious as we often assume.. i think being in their presence for a while and seeing they werent attacking him spooked him because they werent trying to hurt the bear, and animals can bond with other animals int he wild if they arent a threat to eachother.

And before you get all holier than thou, the other most popular method is dogs to chase and tree the bear then they shoot the bear out the tree. Bait barrel is more humane, and free food.

Real hunters believe in fair chase. That means giving the animal a fighting chance and going after only those animals that are allowed to be hunted. There are so many things we could do to make it easier for ourselves but it’s either illegal or against fair chase so we don’t do them. When you hunt or fish you aren’t guaranteed success- and that is an integral part of what hunting is all about.

These guys seem like ethical hunters but I hope the traps are for smaller animals that get trapped alive or are instantly killed. They must check their traps daily if they found this bear stuck but not injured.

The barrel is a bait station. Hole in the side is for large bears to reach in and pull out donuts or bread. Hunter sits in a tree stand 20ft. up with a hunting bow and arrow and shoots a large one. Just an accident that the cub got his head in there. That beautiful blonde phase black bear will be an excellent trophy in four or five years. I'd shoot it! You've got to understand, that even with food there, it's no guarantee that a bear will come in during daylight hours, or when the hunter is in the stand. Bears are not stupid, can be very tricky, very fast, and very silent for such a big animal. Plus, they are on their home turf and always have the advantage. It is no easy feat to kill a bear, even over bait.

Idk. Never saw the appeal of running around in the woods slaughtering stuff. I always felt it was akin to being in someone's home and killing them. There's a million other worthy/better things to do than hunting. It was great of them to save this bear. I hate knowing that there's people out there who wouldn't.

Its not bait for the bear, the barrel is food for the bears intended to only be accessible to them by scooping it out with their paws so that 1 bear doesn't just eat all of it in 20 seconds. This bear is smaller than normal so somehow managed to get its head stuck in it. I assume the bait they are talking about is for smaller game or for trail cameras.

No literally, in the video description it says they were checking their bait traps and in the video itself they mention it knocking down their blind. The traps are to habituate the bears to the area for hunting, the blind is so they can shoot it without it seeing them.

The food is in the barrel to allow bear to access it while also making them work for it a bit. For larger bears it is a fun toy where they get a fun treat for scooping it out with their paws, but for smaller (and dumber) bears the hole is just big enough for them to get their heads stuck. They moved some food out of the barrel so the smaller bear can eat a bit without having to mess with the barrel again.
