More Snapper action from an overnighter on the rocks. A hard start but plenty of good fish incl an early hours kingfish, octopus, and some light tackle dawn scraps with Big Snapper in shallow terrain..... hope you enjoy.
for this fishing, we are using Diawa Saltist hyper rods paired with PEN slammer reels and casting unweighted 9/0 single circle hooks on 80lb mono leader and ideally 30lb mono mainline.
Great video 5 stars. It gets the blood pumping when a kingy shows up like that. Can those octopus bite you or anything? Been wanting to film one for ages but havnt seen one. Far out man that snapper on the light line was insane!
Cheers mate. Occy can bite but rarely do in defense as far as I am aware. They can actually identify individual people from the taste of their blood though. I have participated in experiments that concluded this. One the size in video, the bite would be a small nick from the beak like mouth that draws a little blood. Not dangerous but gives ya the shits when waiting for them to bite though... lol. Big ones are more of a concern due to there arms being so powerful. Can easily rip a dive mask off or pull a regulator out of ones mouth.
@@DarkmoonAngler always welcome. Wow that is really interesting so the smaller ones aren't a concern just the bigger ones you have to be much more careful cheers man!
I presume it has good squid potential there where we were in the video as a lot of those Asian guys who are mad keen on squiding were out there the day we walked out. But that area is on the East coast. In the Manukau harbour I have only seen schools of small squid amongst the schools of mackies while diving off Lady Bell pt. But there have been mature squid caught off Cornwallis wharf that I'm aware of but I'm not sure how frequently it happens.
