Best bird hunting videos on RU-vid! So jealous of all the bird hunting opportunities in the mid west/west. In eastern NC we have great woodcock hunting but you'll liable to walk 10 Miles for one covey of bobwhite on public.

Great video as always. The range question is about like asking a group of guys which breed is best.🤣 Growing up quail hunting in North Alabama, we seldom had a field over 40 acres so we bred 40 acre dogs. Sometimes, it was drop the tailgate watch them work a field, if they pointed go to them, if not load up and go to the next one. Keep the videos coming!

Great video. My young Vizsla’s sweet spot is about 150 yards which I’m ecstatic about based on my hunting style. As cool and stylish as hard chargers that go out 400+ yards can be, in a few FTs we’ve outperformed a number of dogs in derby working closer and more methodically quartering ground. Scoring finds the long rangers ran right past.

Love the vids and appreciate the work you put in. Thanks for it all. Would love to see a vid on your dog boxes. My hunt partner and I are already running short on space with a decked system in a Silverado with two individual boxes and just enough camp gear to stay warm on 3-8 day east Oregon winter hunts. He’ll have a third dog in our string next season, would love to avoid pulling a trailer to haul what would end up being minimal gear. Hope you consider.

I'm thinking about a trip this fall to Kansas. I was questioning the best time to arrive there. The start of the quail and pheasant season is what I'm shooting for. The rifle season for deer season opens up at the end of Nov. If you were there at this time, does the rifle season present a problem where bird hunters and deer hunters compete for land access? I'm going to be pulling a camper trailer with me, so the early-season weather might be more beneficial for me.

I haven’t been there during rifle season so I couldn’t say for sure.

The go pro looks like a nice tool to go back and watch how the dogs are handling birds. Sometimes it's tough to make sure the dog wasn't moving when the bird flushed especially when you are hunting alone. And I'm not sure why the debate about range, depends on a bunch of factors. Big running trial dogs are great, just remember you have to walk those 500 yards to get to a point, through the cover, up hills, etc. If you're on a horse you can cover that ground pretty quick, this fat old guy takes a bit to get there.
@masterclassanonymous1292
@masterclassanonymous1292 Год назад
Maybe you should consider doing some real field trials. Possibly look into open all age and shooting dog trials with American Field? Put all the factors together range, run pattern, cast distance and handle. Your meat hunting videos are excellent. Very enjoyable to watch.

Nice hun man! So I have few questions for you, as a novice hunter I get intimidated by not wanting to break any laws. I do travel a lot and I was wondering how do you plan ahead for having the right license. Do you always make a quick trip to Walmart or do you buy your licenses ahead? I hate that short term non resident licenses are consecutive days.

I'm confused why range is a hot debate. A fantastic dog should always have dynamic range. If you're in good heavy cover, no more than 100 yards is needed, if the dog isn't finding birds and there's not objective cover to hunt, range is OK. The best dogs I hunted with, would go on point 500 yards away and you bet the farm there are not birds between you and that dog.
