I found out that Amazon has a cast iron garlic roaster like the one in the video. Here is an affiliate link: amzn.to/3bLCLmu I also added the link to the video description.
Blessings to you as well for that beautiful scripture. Thank you for the antique cast iron find, it’s the little things that feel so good these days. 😇🫶🏾🦋
As a new cast iron guy, your video is very informative and helpful. I have about 25 pieces and I cook on most of them. I am the camp cook for a bunch of hungry scuba divers.
Thank you for sharing God’s Word at the end of every video. In this way, you are fulfilling the “being a blessing” principle you talk about. God bless you, brother.
At 14:52 in the video you were asking what that was. It is a kerosene pot used for dashing kerosene on your firewood before starting the fire. You leave the dasher in the pot of kerosene, it soaks it up and will sprinkle a good amount onto the firewood making starting the fire easier. My grandfather had one that sat on the mantel, and he would swing the dasher a couple of times on the firewood before lighting. It has been over sixty years since I have seen another one, and that brought back a flood of memories. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks for making them.
Love your channel my brother! So interesting. I have 3 cast iron skillets from my grandma and one is a chicken fryer. So, because of you I’m gonna break them out and clean them up and start using them! Thanks so much and I love the sharing of the Word at the end of the videos! God Bless 🙏🏻
Ex-Plumber here, we had cast iron lead pots where we melted lead for pouring "lead&oakum" joints of cast iron Bell & spigot soil pipe. That rusted pot looks just like what we used.
I can hardly wait for the opportunity to to get back out there again. I love hunting cast her in the wild. You never know what you'll find and you also made a lot of great people.
i have seen those garlic roasters down in ELPASO long before the computers came out,, i now have a cast iron and a clay garlic roaster,, those little ashtrays/pans make frying eggs for sandwichs a snap that is what i used them for,, thank you for the tips and info
I just described for your channel and I love cast iron I like to thank you for the educational on iron cast iron I want to sleep on it now I'm up this morning and I love it keep up the good work
I've seen that honeypot used. It belongs with the stove pipe vents. We kept kerosene in the pot. The little dipper end was placed under kindling and lit. Didnt work as well as newspaper usually but on damp days it was handy.
Loved your video...it was a nice break from all of the scary stuff happening now...thank you. I don't know much about CHF but they did buy Favorite Piqua so many pieces are similar (very nice diamond logo)....it would have gone home with me along with several others there...great prices!!!! Keep up the great work.
I have watched all 11 episodes of Hunting Cast Iron in the Wild, some more than once. Do you think you'll get to do more of these? I understand how the world is these days, I just love these types of videos. Keep up the work. Keep sharing the scriptures!
Thank you for another great and informative video, Stephen! It was refreshing to see down to earth prices on the cast irons for a change! I am looking forward to seeing your video with the garlic roaster, and have now added those to my list of oddities to look for.
Found you recently and love your channel. I throughly enjoyed this video. I do not know anything about cast iron history. You are so full of knowledge. Thank you so much for sharing the pieces and prices. My Ezy Beezy stick arrived safe. You did a wondefful with the packaging. Have not used it yet but hope to soon.
How do you order EZY Beezy? I am new here and so excited to find out that my grandmother’s irons mostly are Griswolds and a chicken fryer. I’ve always cooked and loved Cast Iron but not many people I know use them. But I always get excited using them! Anyway, Thank you for all the neat videos! I am trying to learn more! And thank you for the scripture in Psalms! Blessings, lissa
Those prices!! I can imagine my stubborn self and some of my most beloved stubborn old friends... "So, the two of us went into the cast iron business together..." LoL
The piece that you said looked like a honey pot is a wood stove fire starter , you fill the pot with kerosene and put the dipper in the stove/ fire place and light it until the wood starts to burn.
I believe you are correct about the shift designation. I worked for a large steel foundry in the Pacific Northwest and it was not uncommon for us to put twoslashes or two large holes underneath the pattern number for second shift. We weren’t required to do it we just did it on our own.
Hi Steven, Always enjoy and learn from your videos, on the oval griddle or round griddled in Spanish is COMAL not camel like the animal something like co-mal. Thanks again !!!
I'm hungry. Hope you are doing a cast iron cooking video soon. Would like seeing that garlic roaster in action. I bet it would roast a small onion as well.
Another great video, and those prices can’t be beat. I love those Griswold dampers and have 2 I restored hanging in the kitchen, a 6” and a 3”. Great piece of Americana, and they are usually less than $10.
Hi, have you ever seen cast iron cookware, butter/milk containers, decorations ect.. handmade buy Pennsylvania Amish people from long time ago? Even PA dutch products? Uncle's and some cousins have them from grandfather and great grandfather, going back to late 1800's.
Beautiful job! ...and well explained. I just purchased the U.S.-made GreaterGoods 10-inch cast iron skillet ($39.95) on Amazon. It has a milled cooking surface and is outstanding. It passed the egg test on the first try. It might be worth a try for you.
Thank you for this great video! I am hiding out from the C virus and it is always fun to learn more from you about castiron! Stay safe and God bless you and yours!🙂👍
I have a dutch oven that looks just like the Chicago Hardware one in this video and has the trivet inside that looks like the one in the Lodge. I got it for my late uncle that lived in San Diego but was from Illinois. I got to put it in vinegar bath to find out if there any maker marks yet.
Fantastic information... 10:16 I was wondering what kind of pan this was going to be... turn on "CC" closed captioning to see the text of what he his saying... it gets most of the text right but this one had be laughing pretty good
Just found your channel. Love it! I have a small Griswold collection and use some of them on a daily basis. I have a unique waffle maker that I have not seen anywhere else. Do you do pricing suggestions if I want to sell it on eBay or elsewhere? Thank you.
2nd try. Went to antique store and found some C I. Griswold and other nice pieces. Picked up a rusty 6” pan. Sacrifice for seasoning efforts. This turned out very nice but no idea what it is. Can you help please?
Are the actually ash trays? I bought a few new lodges that size and thought they were just small skillets. I use them to cook with ( sauces, single egg ,ect..)
The numbers do correlate to heatring and stove eye inches but it is a ballpark reference at best. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-78ZHF_02uDQ.html
could I send you a photo of my flat cast iron? I bought it at goodwill a while back and it is very unusual looking. it looked brand new when i found it, as in no seasoning at all. I have worked with it but so far have not achieved the nice seasoned look. May be for pancakes, and has a very fancy lip. Thanks.
The lead pot that you showed my daddy was a plumber and he had a big propane tank he had a piece of iron that set on top of the tank then he put the pot on top and put these large round pieces of lead in the pot to melt he would take what it’s called Oakham and put around cast-iron pipe were at joined and then take a chisel and hammer and put Oakham down in there Tite Then pour the lead over the Oakham to seal the pipe
I have a question about an aluminum skillet. I am not an aluminum fan, but I ran across a number 8 with a definite BSR handle! Did they make aluminum skillets??
Are there any books that give you info on the cast iron and prices? WOuld love to have it in my price guide collection as I am a reseller and am always on the hunt for items to flip.
I have a question. I have my great-grandmother's/grandmother's/mother's skillets. One smallish and one largish. Both are beautiful on the inside, and have been well cared for. But both have this crust all over the sides on the outside. I'm thinking it may be from fruit cobbler boiling over and then becoming so solid on the sides in the oven that no one had time to remove it. It's about an eighth of an inch thick in some places. It's not rust. How can I safely remove it? Someone a long time ago suggested sand blasting, but that just sounded like it would hurt the pan so I've never been willing to hand it over to someone else to do that to it.
The most simple and safest way to strip a cast iron pan is with lye. You can do that either by using a lye tank or the oven spray cleaner in a bag method. I have a couple of videos on that subject if you are interested in checking them out.
at 15.00 not honey pot - brass lid and stone was soaked in kerosene for large homes with multable fireplaces so not to have to make kindling fire starter - good ol days
Olive oil will work but grapeseed oil works better. The blends work even better. The base oil for the product that I make "Easy Beezy" cast iron seasoning is is grapeseed oil and it works great.
How big is the yellow enameled pot you picked up, I have an orange Belgium made lid with a couple chips in it that measures 8 1/4 inch I would donate to the cause!
