This one definitely has a more righteous tone than the original, and I'm so glad this game had original music and not just reused tracks from dds1 because this is some of the sickest smt music ever.
Check out BlazBlue. It pulled something very similar. All characters before Chronophantasma's release (the third game?) got "theme sequels" much like this.
@@professionalfangster1510 Yeah, Reimu's old theme "Maiden's Capriccio" (which she had since at least the fourth game back on the PC-98) was replaced entirely with the new "Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly". I was technically mistaken about Sakuya's. Her first theme was "Lunar Clock" in EoSD, then she got "Flowering Night" in PoFV, and then that got remixed in Hisoutensoku. I think the majority of characters did get remixes though.
This theme sounds far more satisfying than the original for some reason even though I like that one too, I don't know enough about music theory to understand why rip
im no music theorist but if i had to put my finger on it, as another comment stated, it has a very "righteous" but also "bitter" mood vs DDS1's "desperate" mood; the additonal guitars and instrumentation generally gives it a huge boost
not gonna lie, this track definitely gives off the “betrayal” vibe so much better. especially at 0:39 with it’s reuse of the Hunting theme motif from DDS1 and it captures that feeling so well especially during that fight with Heat man, I gotta say while Shoji Meguro’s work in future games is still good I can’t deny that he might’ve peaked during the DDS duology imo
@@FungalFury what I don’t get is why it plays for those bosses. For Abaddon and Vritra it makes sense. Abaddon’s case makes sense cause the dude ate his buddies and it makes sense for Vritra because you’re technically fighting Heat.
