I took the kids out to a wash just east of Apache Junction to look for snakes. Jensen has been catching catching lizards like a pro in the back yard and has been wanting to catch some snakes. We found 12 snakes total with one den of 7 or 8 Western Diamondbacks. Even though it was 9pm at night the temps were in the high 90s.

I don't even live near AZ, but just thinking about hiking and accidentally stepping on one terrifies me 😬

A snake is just as scared of you as you are of him

My brother just moved south of Tucson. I plan on coming out in April to do some snake hunting. He’s in Sierra Vista. Any tips, tricks or clues on where to search? I’m from Pennsylvania and we have Timber Rattlesnakes here in the mountains but I wouldn’t know where to start looking in the desert.

April will be a good time to get out. Mornings and evenings should work. Walk washes, drive dirt roads and ask around. If you're lucky you might get to see a gila monster

@@KimballCody thanks! I’m excited to see the abundance of desert wildlife. It’ll be my first experience with desert creatures.
