Really nice TIGER, Rooster! If you want to find lodges, go check out the marked lookout towers on your map. Interacting with the point on top of the tower will identify any lodges and mark any other PoIs within a pretty decent radius, and there's almost always at least one lodge within range of the tower. I also wouldn't worry about the snow leopards, I expect they'll either be a lot like lynx (scare animals but do not chase them, can't go aggressive) or puma (scare and will chase animals during feed time, but still can't go aggressive). I was assuming they'd be more puma-like, but considering that it's almost impossible to get a puma to warning call (the only time I've seen it happen is if you alert one with a gunshot too far away to spook it), I'm now leaning more lynxlike. The accuracy stat on the new gun is probably irrelevant. Most rifles in most scenarios in this game are pinpoint-accurate, the only exceptions I know of are the Whitlock and Coachmate, which both are accurate to 150, then have a random spread introduced past that distance. The really interesting things about the new gun are the 200 meter effective range, and absolutely insane penetration and expansion stats. Granted there are hidden stats that matter more than those (even though the .308 has higher listed expansion than the 4-8 and 4-9 guns, it'll cause a lower bleed rate at the same distance and organs hit than most of them), but unless the hidden stats are awful this thing may ragdoll Class 9s. The only calibers with listed stats anything like it are the .470 and .454, both of which have much lower effective ranges than this. Again, unless the hidden stats suck, it's wild this thing is a 4-8. Although it still likely won't be a popular choice for the single-shot nature.

It's good to go to lookout towers for discovering lodges, claiming them reveals lodges close

The new gun in the game is basically what I have, well I only have the receiver and lever but it does work and the firing pin does move. Mines chambered in .310 though. I was used as a military training rifle in the 1800s here in Australia

That DLC rifle is based off of a martini henry. They surplus those coated in yak grease to protect them from moisture. It’s very hard to clean it off of its yak fat rendered into grease with the consistency of tar that does not like to come off

I wonder if we will ever get snakes someday. Kinda like the European Rabbit with their burrows, maybe snakes could have their own hiding places. Rattle Snakes in the United States, Anacondas in South America, and Pythons in Africa, the vipers of Asia, and then Cobras… just an idea for additional small game species.
