Great looking deer! Glad you found him. I got my 1st handgun hunt deer yesterday with a 357 maximum contender. He took off into the brush after I shot. I know the "did I miss" feeling. Fortunately the one I shot only ran about 30 yards into the brush and died from a heart/lung shot. Thanks for sharing your hunt.
Personally I really struggled a bit with the red dot at first, I found it seemed to move around (at least in my mind) a lot. After time I got more and more confident with it. At this point I do prefer either a 4X scope or open sights.
Well, would have been nice to know what bullet / round he used, and was there an exit wound? I know this stuff is sterilized for public consumption, but as a hunter evaluating the performance of this combination, not impressed.
Sorry for the delay, these replies we're going to an old email. Ammo was Hornady 225 gr FTX. We ended up not using this round at all after this hunt and a couple of whitetail hunts. No exit wound on any of the game we shot with that round. Thanks
Some love it and some don't Personally we like a standard scope in 4X power a little better with a traditional set of cross hairs when it comes to shooting longer ranges.
I don't find this to be ethical at all. We got a professional dude with a team to help shooting a $2000 gun and the shot placement is absolutely horrendous at a short distance. Why are we hunting with handguns? To be ethical we need to have a high confidence that we will get a clean kill most of the time. This sucks. Coming from a guy who hunts big game and birds just about everyday from September to December.
