Watch as we install the Huracan Tailgate Storage System on Bruiser our 1996 80 Series. We are not sponsored by Huracan and bought the storage system ourselves. Overall this is an easy project, it just takes some time.
We are using the Huracan Storage for soft goods so we aren't worried about damaging our Kilmat pads. However if you are going to store anything hard we highly recommend you use the foam padding that comes with the system.
We purchased the Huracan Tailgate Storage from Huracan: huracanfabrication.com/
Kilmat 50 Mil Mats: www.amazon.com/Kilmat-Deadeni...
We are more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding this installation. Just leave a comment and we'll get back with you shortly.

Jeff - Did you consider the "marine carpet" option for the tail gate hatch? If not, why not?

I did consider Marine carpet on the hatch. But we had carpet on tailgate before and it drug a little bit with the drawer system we have. The hurricane fabrication only comes in one color, black and we would want Brown because our interior is brown/tan so at some time in the future if we want to change we can.

Very nicely done. I noticed that when you were putting the latches in and pushing down it flexed the whole piece...what's your long term assessment with this? Do you feel it's strong enough? Has it bent at all? I am a bit cautious about sitting or standing on it even though the manufacturer says it's plenty strong enough. thanks!

After using this for several months now - I think the lid is good for mild usage. You just need to pay attention to where you're stepping and how long you stand on a spot. Weight of the person matters as well. I weight 235lb so the flex is worse than if the wife steps on it with her 125 lb frame. Long term - I think if I abuse it and not watch where I step, the lid WILL bend and cause issues. It bends more in the corners, so we're careful to not put all our weight on the corners of the lid.

@@overlandeffex Good suggestions. I don't stand on my decklid much if at all but just will be a bit more careful when I do after installing it....which will be this weekend as I just got it delivered! Thanks!

Do you have to put the silver padding stuff in? Or could you get away with not putting padding in it?

The silver stuff was actually just sound deadening material. You don't need to put it in. We installed sounds deadening material throughout the entire truck so when we cut open the tail gate, it was just a good time to put it in there as well.
