Thanks for the shout out Hurm and the birthday wishes. Thought you would enjoy this one. I consider this song their masterpiece song. Myles wrote this for a friend that passed away, Mark Morris, that sold Myles his first guitar. In March 2011, Guitarist magazine listed the song's guitar solo, which is performed by both Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti, as the greatest guitar solo of all time. FYI - This band is Creed but with Myles Kennedy as singer instead of Scott Stapp. Other great Alter Bridge songs to do are: Words Darker Than Their Wings - Live Royal Albert Hall, Broken Wings - Live at Amsterdam, Watch Over You - Live at Amsterdam Also these studio versions - Open Your Eyes, Rise Today, Isolation, Calm the Fire, Fortress, Broken, Cry of Achilles
Hauntingly beautiful song. Alter Bridge's new single "Pawns and Kings" just dropped. Fortress and Worlds Darker are spectacular. and for a change of pace to a song that rips is Addicted to Pain.
Alterbridge are great mate. Words darker than their wings from the Albert Hall is an absolute must. Also check out Tremonti(Mark Tremonti, the main guitarist) stuff, superb also
Can't go wrong with any AB song. Check out Cry of Achilles, Fortress, Words Darker Than their wings, Waters Rising just to name a few and for good measure, check out Tremonti (the lead guitarist has his own solo project which is just as good as the AB stuff, though a bit more thrashy) It's a deep and amazing trove of musical treasure you've stumbled upon
I love this performance, and awesome reaction. I particularly liked how you were just discussing whether Myles and Tremonti might be equals as guitarists, right before Tremonti did his face-melting solo xD
One of the best touring rock bands today and some of the hardest working musicians in the industry Myles Kennedy is the greatest rock vocalist alive today and both Tremonti and Kennedy are some of the most distinctive guitarists. Their guitar playing is so complementary and this back to back solo with the hand-off never fails to give me chills. When Myles initially joined AB, Mark had no idea Myles could play so well. Myles was keeping it secret as he didn't want to tread on Mark's toes as the lead guitarist. One night, Mark walked past Myle's room and heard crazy jazz coming from the room so he stuck his head inside to ask Myles what he was playing on the radio, but it turns out it was Myles. Ever since then, the band have incorporated Myles playing and Mark thinks of it as a secret weapon. Myles playing style is more blues and jazz influenced compared to Mark's speed metal influences and so it's almost like they gained an extra band member. Mark is also a pretty good vocalist and has really developed his voice since starting his own solo project. Both Myles and Mark now enjoy swapping roles, so Mark will sing lead on a few songs and Myles is playing more and more guitar leads and solos. They're are formiddable team.
I’m in my 50’s and only just discovered them about 2 1/2 yrs ago because rock radio sucks nowadays and AB doesn’t really get any play for an unknown reason. I was familiar with Myles through he and Slash’s stuff, so I searched out what else Kennedy has done and discovered them. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since! So much better than Slash IMO. Tremonti is amazing on lead guitar! Songs deeper and more shreddy. Love it!
U gotta give it up for a band like Alter Bridge... the real deal w/ integrity and determination... 🤘🤘 For a band like Creed in 2001 to be selling millions of records, be all over MTV, VH1 and radio... and selling out tours... And just abruptly announce in 2003 that the band was splitting up (well, not technically - just sacking their singer Scott Stapp). So, they announced that they were reforming w/ 3 of 4 Creed members and relaunched the band as Alter Bridge w/ singer Myles Kennedy in 2004 and a new album 'One day remains'... AND they would not play ANY Creed songs live and start from scratch, touring clubs... Weirdly enough, Alter Bridge broke big in Europe (where Creed were only somewhat popular) and I saw them live still touring clubs in N. America in 2013 for their 4th album 'Fortress'... while in Europe, they were playing arenas. Mark Tremonti (guitar) said that Creed had become a joke in the music industry by 2002, and Scott Stapp was so liquored up on tour that fans were demanding refunds and suing the band... They were never a Christian rock band, but they were marketed as such. Alter Bridge was never about that... they were serious and taken seriously by their fans (Most of whom did not like Creed) ... Tremonti also saw Myles Kennedy playing guitar backstage on their first tour, and encouraged him to play guitar onstage as well, so Alter Bridge became a dual-guitar band.
