Beryl made landfall near Matagorda as a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. After moving across the Gulf of Mexico as a tropical storm, Beryl regained hurricane strength shortly before moving onto the Texas coast.

Most of Houston was originally a flood plain or wetland/ marsh before we put a hunch of concrete over it, the drainage systems are not built uo to date to account for how much the city has grown. Especially when theres so many empty lots of forests and other places the water has nowhere to go but over the land . Also construction companies do cut corners and route their drainage to already existing areas and dont build their own to save money. My town and almost all my families houses were flooded during harvey

We live in the Houston area and the wind sounded bad.Our power went out about 4am but thank God it came back on about 2pm. Lots of folks still don’t have electricity. Thank you for your prayers!!!!

Something needs to be done with the infrastructure, sure it's a powerfull storm but taxes are super high and electricity fees as well, this can't be happening every storm we have, fix the damn electric grid!!!

Actually, texas taxes are medium compared to the rest of the country. States that pay more taxes like Connecticut don't have the same infrastructure problems y'all have. Your electricity prices are high because of poor planning of your grid, expanding into areas that were once pure desert is a bad idea. Hopefully you can get your government to work for you instead of against you.

@@katrinamillings3651 That's what I was trying to explain to my son about this. He wants to move away from the coast too. We are down closer to the coast where it came in at. The Bay City area. I explained to him how bad the tornados are in the Midwest and North Texas. Pretty much anywhere you go there's some kind of crazy weather. Northern states have to worry about severe winters.

I am at a shelter in Galveston: In Houston, the shelters are providing cots and food . Here in Galveston, we are forgotten. Only tourist matter . This city is so corrupt. Elderly disabled sleeping on the floor . Using plastic as covers It is so horrible to see. They denied a blind man with 1 leg entrance bc he is in diapers. He had a caregiver ! I want to email the ADA . Discrimination of a disabled person is against the law!! I emailed the mayor Who knows if he'll get it

@@bwhit716 This hurricane was predicted to landfall as a Cat 1 and it did! Hurricane Beryl was predicted to quickly downgrade to a tropical storm and it did. This storm has reportedly knocked out power to a million in Houston alone! Seems the media just told it like it is and it is your over reaction that is misplaced. If you are over 60 you should understand this stuff by now. I am 69 and the report made sense to me.
