I went to the builtmore Wednesday and Thursday left Ashville on Friday morning on my way to Ohio for a wedding, on Saturday. Droveback to Jacksonville Florida. 1,980 miles and most of it was in the hard rain but we are alive. We drove around lots of detours. The house and furniture is priceless, half a Italy is there. I was in love with the builtmore and didn't think that the water rose to home. My vacation story with my wife. And my 1999 ls400
Quartz is SiO₄, silicon-oxygen tetrahedra crystals, and you could absolutely grow them in lab, but nobody does because you can pick it up off the ground in so many places, it is the second most common mineral on earth.
Truly iconic MBZ designs! On the BMW front, I was excited to see their new design team is headed by the former PoleStar chief of design - which sounds promising!!
We experienced flash flooding in Boulder county in 2013. Most of the rebuilding has finally completed in 2024. Without FEMA and Army corps of engineers many small towns and residential areas would have died. My heart goes out to those people in NC. What I remember most is the sound of the flooded creek. It was zooming past, filled with dirt, rocks and small boulders. It sounded like fast moving concrete and you could feel the impact of boulders hitting the bridge abutments. If you fell into the water you'd die within seconds.
Just received info about this yesterday. Supposedly the owners of the quartz and lithium mines have been wanting to expand and the surrounding communities are against it. Due to flooding, many of the residents will not be returning to the area so the big companies might get their way. Seems a bit convenient.
Rotary engines failed because they are quite inefficient (low MPG) and they struggle to meet emissions requirements. Reliability is somewhat of a problem, but it pales to fuel consumption and emissions.
I live not far from Spruce Pine and have been there many times. Someone has been making a killing there if the quartz mines are as valuable as everyone says. Spruce Pine is a very very poor and economically depressed Appalachian town, even before the hurricane. Where’s all that money gone, because you would never know they were sitting on a goldmine.
Raw material does not bring much money on it's own vs cost to produce. Be that for a logger, commercial fisher, or farmer/rancher. In many ways it is almost like a colonial operation. The quartz is processed into a form that can be bagged and shipped out of the area around the world to chip makers.
this is prime time for the Biltmore Estate with the Fall colors. Been there once in the Summer and that place is amazing. Been wanting to see the Christmas decorating of the Biltmore Estate
And one for during the pandemic when placing people into harms way by encouraging ignorance during professionally recommended lockdowns that wiped out over a million. No exclamation points were used for the victims who only lived once.

I love that cat!!! Also thanks for not changing the red dot that fast forwards and reverses the video, I hate that so bad I quit watching videos with it.
My friend has a huge property down there…gone…Biltmore is amazing..I rode my old BMW K75s down skyline drive..hit the Biltmore & hit the tail of the dragon a few years back…( sigh)
As for the semiconductor shortage, it always pays to own at least one analog car. My '24 Camaro may die when the zombie apocalypse comes but I will always be able to fix my '91 S-10 5 speed.
April guessed correctly, actually some High Purity Quartz for electronics is actually GROWN. Synthetic diamonds was evolved from that process. The easiest method is made from lower quality quartz processed as feed stock into the reactor. No lab required just a very clean factory several in Japan IIRC. These GROWN Quartz is often used for Electronic Timing i.e. Clocks.
Ask anyone who owns/owned an Mazda RX-7 or RX-8...... with those rotaries even if they're tuned and dialed in as perfect as can be, you fill the oil and check the gas every time you stop at a gas station.
Design a car that uses closed cell foam body panels and then safety becomes industry standard. accident victims only suffer a minor inconvenience perhaps brushing off the dust and going on with their day. With gullwing doors that wont trap anyone if it goes into the water, but instead help the car to become a hydrofoil planning boat for trips around the lake, or across the lake to save time. Make the dashboard a rolodex lazy susan fancy frozen pizza cooking microkitchen that serves slices from something like a cd tray ejection works. Name the car company after your cat.
