Hurricane Ian was a monster.

Absolutely the worst hurricane I've ever been through. My heart hurts for the folks that lost everything. FMB and Sanibel are still unrecognizable 6 months later. Rest in peace those that lost their lives.

Having lived in Cape Coral since 1994, through Charley and Irma, etc we were definitely not prepared or properly warned on this one in time. So devastating right after and still especially on the islands. 🌀 🙏 #SWFLSTRONG

The storm surge went so far inland. We had 6 feet of water in our home, West side of 41/S. Tamiami Trail in San Carlos Park. We had to swim from our home to higher ground around 2pm and wait out the winds until 11pm, huddled in the corner on a strangers front steps...they were not home. Still homeless, still cry every day.

Praying for your continued recovery. Have you been able to find shelter?

In the end you have a chuckle This is Florida My pioneer ancestors survived here since Civil War times and I'm still here after living on both coasts for a very long time Ian was a tricky storm We were not prepared in the Tampa Bay area although it was initially headed for us Good lessons of what not to do

Your ancestors had coastlines not stripped of mangroves. They had storms not supercharged with the energy of global warming.

@@popeyegordon CAT 5 hurricanes were here before “global warming.” Stop acting like this is new. And water can flow through trees. Much of the devastation from Ian was from mobile homes and older construction. Newly up to code construction did just fine.

@@brianfl33916 I agree. People act like cat 5 storms are some new phenomenon. The coast in much more inhabited than the past. Hence you will have a greater threat for high property damage and death.

There is also no cure for the stupid of leaving every time surge is predicted when only one of 20 warnings hits your home. Your trolling is the stupidest.

No need for comments like that. If you weren’t here when it happened, which obviously you weren’t. You have no business to express that opinion. You don’t know what you would do in that situation. Also keep in mind most of us on the beach didn’t know that it was going to hit us until the morning that it happened. I think you should stay in your lane, not in florida.

@@rachelbest2657 Agreed. I've been through 7 hurricanes, and comments like that you can just tell they don't understand how complex that situation is.

As you so easily proved with your simple unthoughtfull, uninformed comment. Even experienced meteorologists had difficulty determining the course of mother nature. No way to prepare fully for the power of the wrath that CHAOS & logistics impart on ensuring everyone's safety and survival. Your words are not well thought through & callous to those struggling to recover
@brianfl33916
@brianfl33916 Год назад
You forget that many people don’t leave because after a hurricane the government has a really bad habit of not letting people return to their homes. How would like to be told that you can’t return to your own property for 2-3 weeks while mold is taking over and could have been stopped if properly remedied in time.
