Hurricane Milton churned Wednesday toward a potentially catastrophic collision along the west coast of Florida, where some residents insisted they would stay after millions were ordered to evacuate and officials warned that stragglers would face grim odds of surviving.

Reinforced concrete *pillars* (pilings, stilts) are underrated. Even then you would probably need to be on the 3rd floor of your home in order to keep your feet dry when a 12 foot storm surge hits. If I lived in Florida I wouldn't take the risk and would've been out of there 2 days ago.

Ah, I think your story may not pan out here. How is it possible for you to have witnessed the eye wall of Andrew as see how “wild” it was for it to be sunny with no rain when the eye supposedly went over you when Andrew made landfall in the middle of the night? Exactly where in Florida do you live where the sun shines in the middle of the night?

This is a Level 5 Hurricane... Everyone seems to Act as if it is a Category 2 or Lower.. No this is a SEVERE STORM, INTENSITY LEVEL is the Highest Level... Like Helene, the Flooding was 20ft in those Towns.... Some 400 Miles from the Coast...

The problem? We're living in Idiocracy. Plenty of people are going to dismiss this because they're too lazy or don't take warnings seriously. With that being said, if I hear about anyone passing away from the areas that are going to have 5+ feet, its going to be hard for me to feel bad for them. At that point, nature took its course and washed out some derps with it.

@@aliengreen2364 the storm surges along the coastline can be catastrophic. 10-12 feet . Inland we’re worried about flooding because it was pretty bad with Ian and this storm is more powerful.
