My god I remember this day so clearly. I was starting 11th grade, our school was closed for about 2 or 3 weeks. We didn't have power for almost 2 weeks, a tree landed on the road near our house (fortunately, nobody got hurt) and when we went back to school half the building still had no power. It was absolutely terrible, I'll never forget it
I was in 6th grade. Even though we were fine (we lived in the Bronx), a lot of teachers came from New Jersey or Long Island and their homes were flooded.
I was in sixth grade, and school was closed for a week because of this. Thank goodness it was not like the storm that happened one year prior where that same area of mine lost power
Me, too.... the aftermath of it was the worst for me. Lucky enough to be a decent distance from the coast, my family just had to contend with an eight day power outage. We eventually decided to stay in a hotel for a bit, because we had no heat and the temperature PLUMMETED right after the storm, but it could have been far worse. It was only after watching a documentary that I really saw how much damage had been done to the coast.
Everyone was talking about New York with this storm, everyone ignored New Jersey and the damage there...New Jersey had it twice as bad as NY but nobody gave a fuck.
Nicole G You guys were directly under the eye it was a very scary experience tbh we got #3 in Massachusetts but the weather wasn't to the point where we had to leave the city
i remember sandy like it was yesterday. i was 9., living in Jersey. i remember the winds, rain, no halloween, my lights flickering (but thank God i didn’t lose power) and school was closed for at least a few days after the storm. I hope to experience another massive storm like this tho. am i crazy?😂
I live in NY.. Omg I was so scared because I think thought our house was going to flood and so many trees fell down winds a lot of Rain and since our because is like a 5-10 mins drive so I thought we were gonna die xD

AllAboutTiff scared? I went to the boardwalk when it was right over NY. Probably a stupid idea, but definitely wasn't scared.
Lmao No damages were done in Queens but broken trees and some houses but it wasn't a lot of damage. Their was no flood. Neither the power went out. Some places it did but not some like in Queens.
I live in NJ. Just before the storm hit I got myself into the woods in eastern Burlington County (just west of Tuckerton Ocean County). I was far enough away from water that I wouldn't have to worry about storm surge and far enough away from any trees taller than 10 feet that I wouldn't have to worry about them falling onto me or my car. I had enough provisions with me in case I got stuck for a few days, but where I was I knew I wouldn't have to worry about it. I kept listening to local news, weather, and music broadcasts on a portable digital radio that I brought with me waiting to hear when the worst of the storm was just about over my head. After a number of hours of it getting very wet and somewhat windy I decided to go for walks out in the woods and on some of the local paved roads wearing nothing but a pair of sneakers or nothing at all. I knew that very few people would be out on the roads after dark during a storm like this because this part of the state is usually very quiet between 11PM - 5AM anyway. It also helped that some of the campgrounds in the area were closed down due to the incoming weather. I was able to go for a number of walks (a few of them lasting as long as 30 minutes straight) during the 36 hour period of time that I basically "sat" in this one specific location in the county. I was able to go driving around during the daytime just as the storm was coming ashore and sitting above my location while the sun was up enough for me to see without needing headlights, but when it was dark I basically sat in one specific area. Talk about a fun 2 days. Here I was, stationed out in the woods, nobody knowing exactly where I was, nobody was with me, and nobody expecting to see someone else out in these areas under this immediate condition. So I decided that I would have a little fun with it and so I walked around naked from my ankles up in certain locations, and completely naked in other areas. During the middle of the night, during the middle of the day, in periods of torrential rain and horrendous wind, in periods of tiny sprinkles and almost no wind at all, out in the middle of the deepest densest forest, right out on the road that runs between various areas of development of any kind.
I was really young when it happened.. my house was only like 200 feet of the coast exactly where it hit. Pretty much destroyed my home in Long Island. I'm lucky enough to have parents that paid to repair it and even did some themselves.
me too, i was only 6 and i remember how ashy the sky looked and how windy it was outside, and my basement being flooded and my grandma cutting her foot downstairs and having to drive herself to the hospital in all that water
Firecharger 427 same. I live in VA though so it won’t hit us but I lived in Rhode Island when Sandy came and had a week off school and I was only 7 at the time
animegeek 1206 I live in northern VA, hurricanes never hit here and anytime snow comes they make us go as everyone else around us is canceled but I’ve been in hurricanes before in different states, just hopefully it goes where it goes
@@RyanRapid I'm in Northern VA, and Sandy got us at I think a Cat 1, maybe 2, when I was about 9 years old. I dont remember much of it, but we did have no power for a few days so. But yeah it is usually snow that hits us
During that time I was in 1st grade and I was living in Philadelphia and when the storm was passing by I remember crying cause there was a weak tree near my room and I thought it was going to fall on me and for 2 nights I never slept...
NJ got hit the hardest from a Hurricane Sandy it brought a tornado lots of flooding then Massachusetts. Thunderstorms associated with the remnants of Hurricane Isaac helped produce a tornado in Camden County and a funnel cloud in Burlington County. They also caused isolated wind damage in Sussex County. A weak EFO tornado touched down in Mount Ephraim at 631 p.m. EDT on the 4th. The tornado initially touched down on the west side of Cleveland Avenue. It then moved east northeast, crossed Jefferson Avenue and lifted as it approached Kings Highway. (County Route 551). Several homes in the area experienced roof damage, mainly from fallen tree limbs. A couple of large trees were uprooted. One badly damaged a concrete sidewalk. The maximum wind speeds were estimated at 70 mph. The path length was about 0.15 miles and the maximum path width was 25 yards. As it moved northward, the hurricane degenerated into a still-massive extratropical cyclone and made landfall on New Jersey on October 29. Over two million households in the state lost power in the storm, 346,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, and 37 people were killed. Subways were inundated in New York City. Hurricane-force winds tore across New Jersey. Blizzard conditions walloped Appalachia. The hurricane - also known as Superstorm Sandy - caused an estimated $70 billion in damages in the U.S., mostly from flooding.
Lol I remember this hurricane. Since I live in Queens, the hurricane wasn't that bad for us. Sure, my house's frame was getting blown away and a tree in my block is bent, but it didn't do much to where I was. But I heard it as like a cat. 5 storm or something
My thoughts & prayers go out to all those in the East Coast who were & still are affected by the storm. RIP to those who died. It's sad to see the loss of lives, electricity, homes, transportation, communication, etc. May all of you stay safe.
Ayano Aishi I remember when my family and I went to the store during the storm, and a tree fell in the middle of the street. I also remember there was so much water in my shoes so I couldn't walk. 😂
Praying for the safety of our friends on the Atlantic coast, their families, friends. and everyone in the regions to be hit. It's so hard to imagine a storm large enough to affect 60 million people. Stay safe.
5SORC irma a lil speck compared to sandy? It's projected to be more costly than Sandy, it was more powerful than sandy, it caused more power outrages than sandy and any storm ever, it wiped out an entire island, like it's literally inhabitable. The only thing it doesn't surpass sandy in is overall size from end to end and (thankfully) the death toll and that's largely due to Irma causing the largest mass evacuation in US history. They're 2 of the costliest hurricanes ever, Irma definitely wasn't a small speck compared to it
i was 10 when sandy hit new york and i was completely oblivious to what was happening. all i remember was that the storm flooded subway tunnels across the city, i lost power for almost a week. also, some family friends in manhattan had to evacuate after a crane collapsed near their area.
I remember this storm knocked out the power in our town, and only around 20 people myself included showed up to school. We stayed for about 2 hours before the principal came and sent us all home, was a pretty fun day in the dark at school.
Spongebob- Sandy I hate Texas Patrick- Me to Sandy- I WILL DESTROY YOUR HOME -turns into super storm- Spongebob- AHHH Patrick- EVACUATE Spongebob- GET FOOD Patrick- GET uhhhh WAtEr Sandy- MUHAHAHA Spongebob- drowns- Patrick-dies-
I live in nj and I remember when I was in the room on my iPad with the lights off and then everyone in the apartment was like what the and my mom came in and I was confused and she said the power went off dang we had candles lit everywhere
This is the most remembered hurricane of my life . I was in elementary school we lost power for 2 weeks. Others was scared but my brothers and I were having a blast😂😂😂💯
Wind speeds don't matter that much in a Hurricane, the Wind field size and storm surge is the main threat, plus winds up to 80 mph for 24-48 hours is probably as bad as 145 mph winds for 8-10 hours, maybe worse.
Guys this is serious! Eighty two lives have been lost and all you can do is argue?! How about sending your prayers and hopes that the families will find comfort in their times of grief and sadness? How about hoping that no more lives or lost? No you are fighting about grammer and other stuff. So some compassion. I hope the familes do find comforting this is a tragedy.
i live in new jersey and i was only 9 but i remember this storm like it was yesterday. trees falling everywhere, no power for almost 2 weeks, no school, no food, we couldnt leave the house for so long, and halloween getting cancelled too. not to mention the year before this we had this horrible blizzard and there was no power for almost 2 weeks AGAIN lmao. nj suffered 😭😭
up here in nova scotia,we are used to these things we have perfect storms regularly. keep candles water and canned meat and powdered foods and you should do ok.
In New Jersey we got hit hard I was in kindergarten and it was close to my birthday so we had to go to my grandmas house in Delaware which was really scary cuz the highways weren’t safe I’m so glad we made it alive
Category 1 storms usually cause no significant structural damage to most well-constructed permanent structures; however, they can topple unanchored mobile homes, as well as uproot or snap numerous trees. Poorly attached roof shingles or tiles can blow off. Coastal flooding and pier damage are often associated with Category 1 storms. Power outages are typically widespread to extensive, sometimes lasting several days
