Hurst Competition Plus Toploader Shifter Adjustment 

Looking at Holley’s website, the arm stamped 2108 and appears to be the shorter arm, is the 3-4 arm. The 1-2 should be stamped 2723. These are what came with my car and probably different for other applications.

Adjustment of the shifter needs to be done in neutral, but it’s easier to find the neutral “sweet spot” if the neutral interlock is engaged. If you place the transmission in gear and disconnect that shift rod, then the other two rods are locked in neutral and easier to adjust. When I simply lined up the shifter arms in neutral and adjusted the rods, the shifting felt clunky and reverse was hard to engage.

Yes it can. There isn’t room for the screwdriver so you have to use something like an Allen wrench to line up the neutral slots.

@@JohnLatrobe ok interesting. I just got a 428, and it seemed like it was stuck in reverse so we had to go underneath and take it out of reverse... Have you heard of that issue?

If it gets stuck in gear it’s usually because the shifter is worn or miss-adjusted. The shifter doesn’t move the shift arm far enough into neutral and the interlocks will still be engaged preventing any other gear from being selected. Sloppiness in the shifter could be something simple like worn bushings.

Okay incredible... That should be easy enough. I've never worked on cars before, so I'm trying to learn as much about my car so I don't make a rash decision like replacing the whole shifter or something like that
