I agree definitely not news worthy, but I’m on the side of mom here. She made clear she knew what he intended and told him not to. This was a birthday party for her son. She had guests over. She most likely spent some time that day showering, washing and blow drying her hair, possibly flat iron too. She then spent time time putting make up on and spent time deciding what to wear. This kind of joke isn't fun y at all and it was disrespectful to his wife. Eventually it starts impacting your physical health and can leave scars on your nervous system even after the relationship is over. A red flag went off when an adult shoved a baby's face who is barely over an infant, into a cake blocking his airways. He could have choked. That's very dangerous and no one should even think of doing something cruel like that to a baby. So before you try to gaslight this mom for making the best decision for her baby, it is better to be safe than sorry. That may have been her attempt at humor but I would have edited the video and left out the smash and had a talk with my husband and moved on in life with a stern " don't do that again." A Birthday Party is not AUTOMATICALMY or NECESSARILY a Birthday "smash" party. Wtf! I don't want cake shoved or smashed in my face, & I definitely don't want it smashed in my kids faces! That's NOT why I held Birthday parties for my kids, or got them Birthday Cakes, or invited people, or something I ever expected to happen. And no one else at any Birthdays I had, held, or been to (except one for a 1 year old) did that either. And I didn't like or approve of them doing that to the baby, but it wasn't my baby, so I didn't say anything. The term Karen wasn't in use yet to describe people who cause trouble for other people, embarrass them, or inappropriately make a scene. And I'm not a "Karen". That's not my style. But I'm sure nowadays, if I even expressed my opinion on such antics, & verbally said that I don't agree with that, I'd be labeled a Karen by a lot of folks today.

Someone will _explicitly_ say no and their spouse will still smash cake in their face. It’s disrespectful and embarrassing for the person and it shouldn’t take strangers telling a grown ass man in this case why he shouldn’t have done that. There was a video of a bride and groom where the groom literally grabbed her around the neck (because she was pulling away) and smashed cake in her face. She had told him before the wedding that she did not want to do that at the reception and he did it anyway. She left angry and got the marriage annulled because right then and there he showed that he didn’t respect her at all to the point of forcefully grabbing her to smash cake in her face to humiliate her “for fun”.

She didn't post the video nor call the media. A party guest who'd filmed the event posted it. It went viral, so the media contacted the couple. She was willing to speak to them, but he backed out, probably realizing there was no way to spin this so that he looked good.
