@@alexrossi4464 No. He was not an adult when the mother married the step- father. The step father adopted this kid and legally gave him his own last name. At some point, I am only guessing, the kid called this man Dad, as he became his legal father. This is a part of grooming.

I think this case was an exception although NO ONE should be made to come out before they are ready to so Dad (or anyone forcing someone to - Priest, Counselor, WHOMEVER) should never make someone out themsleves. Richard knew he was gay before he got married and he targeted a single mother with a young son and groomed her child then after Richards successful career and fulfilling life of grooming a young boy, he decided he was ready to retire with the boy and live out his own wishes at the expense of the boys privacy. he decided to out the boy before the boy had even started his career. He had no regard for the boys privacy or career when he himself had the luxury of privacy and a successful career for his whole adult life. This isn't society's fault,or a problem with acceptance of the gay community in sports. this was Richard's fault, gay or straight you deserve to have privacy and any adult that would take that away after grooming you as a small child is a despicable selfish monster. The husband was totally wrong having an affair with his adopted stepson and then telling him he wants to have an open relationship with him and divorce his mom and come out, this outing the stepson too. I am not making an excuse for the stepson for killing his stepfather but it's what it is, the old guy messed up big time and thus lost his life because of his mistakes.

In the first place, if Richard chose a gay partner besides his stepson, Jason in which their mutual affair & relationship was truly inappropriate on moral or ethical grounds, then this murder tragedy wouldn't have taken place & cost his life.
