Thanks for watching. This Husqvarna trimmer has some interesting problems. Sometimes it starts but dies only to never start again or it just doesn't start. This is a tragic diagnostic video as this trimmer was barely used and has become severely damaged to the point of needing some serious repair. Don't forget to check out some of my other videos if this one isn't what you're looking for. Thanks again.

This comment doesn't have to do with the particular weed eater in the video; but, Husqvarna and the Zama carb. I bought a Husqvarna 25rl string trimmer in 1990 and ran it until last year before having to rebuild the carb. It was a Walbro brand carb. When Husqvarna decided to expand they walked away from Swedish quality and engineering and China became involved in their manufacturing of products. I also have a Husqvarna 55 chainsaw, that I bought in 1996, and it will still crank and run. After a hurricane in 2004, I bought another Husqvarna saw 141, and pole saw 326P5, also a 375 hedge trimmer was purchased around the same time. They have all been a problem to keep running. I run fuel stablilizers and either Husqvarna or Stihl mix oil. The Zama carb requires constant adjusting. If the implement sits for awhile, this is what I do. 1. Adjust the throttle screw all the way down. 2. Close the "HI&Lo" adjustment screws clockwise all the way in. 3. Adjust the "Hi&Lo" adjustment counterclockwise screws counterclockwise out 2 full turns. Try to start the machine. If you can get it to run make your adjustments for Hi/Lo ranges. Once you get it adjusted back off the idle screw until the runs to barely move the cutting device, such as chain/saw, cutting head/trimmer or blades/hedge trimmer.

It amazes me that 1/4 of the time you need to fix someones equipment, it ends up being the engine that was destroyed due to them not knowing how to properly take care and operate their equipment. I run everything on 32:1 as I don't need to worry about there being too little oil in the gas like 50:1 would be. In my experience 32:1 makes the engine last the longest. I would never mix anything 50:1 as to me it seems like too little oil for the engine to last a long time, but it is much better than NOT RUNNING YOUR 2 STROKE ON ANY OIL AT ALL!
@HomeGaragechannel

I understand what you're saying. Most don't realize how important the mixture is to its survival . Thanks for the comment I appreciate it

@@HomeGaragechannel The people that don't know how to operate and take care of 2-cycles correctly should just be buying electric. Well, at least now I see the point of electric, something that you actually don't need to know much knowledge about to operate. For example I bet that trimmer in the video wasn't even a full year old before it stopped working due to the incorrect oil mixture and what looks like they put a capful of 10W 30 oil into the gas. The person who brought that trimmer would have been better off buying a electric. Also why would they buy a expensive trimmer for around $200 and up rather than a electric if they aren't going to know how to take care of it. Also the people that say the cheap $75 gas 2-cycles are bad probably say that because more people buy those than the ones that are twice the price and up. This video is a great example of the same thing that happened to the cheaper ones because it had the exact same issue the cheaper ones had, not taking care of the trimmer and it doesn't start is going to be the same whether you buy a $75 trimmer or a $200 or $300 Echo if you don't take care of them they aren't going to last, but you take care of them they are going to last a long time. If I worked at Menards, Sears, or Home Depot and someone said they were looking for a string trimmer I would say "Gas or Electric?" and if they said gas I would ask them "Do you know how to properly mix 2-cycle fuel for 2-cycle trimmers?" and if they said "No" I would say "Your probably better off with a electric then.".

The compression is definately low. I would check spark arrestor after seeing that the spark plug was dry. It tells me the fuel mix can't exhaust and therefore is not making its way to the combustion chamber. Its worth a look. Maybe?

You’re right ....
@DonB.-Mulefivefive
@DonB.-Mulefivefive 5 лет назад
WRONG.....with a dry plug, it indicates no fuel is reaching the cylinder, a.k.a. combustion chamber. That can be the result of poor storage ( it needs to be hung UP right ) , the fuel container needs to be emptied and run until it no longer starts and fires. It can also be directly attributed to the less than desired ratio of fuel to 2 cycle oil...which has it's own set of issues.

If, after removing the plug and you, placing your thumb over the plug hole, and pulling on the recoil starter , the compression blows your thumb off of the hole, then that's more than enough to fire off the fuel oil mixture. Try it sometime and you'll see the difference. A fancy assed compression tester isn't going to help you if you don't know the basics.

This might sound stupid but try it. Remove the spark plug put 5 drops of straight HD 30 W motor oil straight down the spark plug hole then make sure your plug is clean and has the proper gap. Put the spark plug back in prime carburetor really good, choke it and usually within 2 - 7 pulls it will start right up. It will smoke like a mosquito fogger for 5 minutes until it burns off the oil but i did this in 4 different weed wackers that wouldn't start no matter what anyone did or tried and every one of them now start within 2 pulls and run like beasts! I know it sounds weird but it definitely works! Just remember to check and make sure your engine has spark and is getting fuel before doing this trick otherwise it will not work! Hopefully this works for you like it did for me.

Hi my name is Aaron, I'm having the worst trouble with my weed eater it's a Husqvarna 123 series and I bought new carburetor for it and installed it and couldn't get it to run for some reason. the primer bulb works but I do not see any fuel coming down the return tube but it is dumping basically the whole prime into the throat of the carb. so I'm wondering if I just got a bum carburetor. please get back to me! I have a few questions and would immensely appreciate a walkthrough video on installing and troubleshooting a new carburetor on a 123 series or similar Husqvarna weed eater with the primer bulb, fuel line placement, and carburetor adjustment. Cheap ebay parts hard to beat those prices even if you have to do it again in couple years still way cheaper.
