Thank you so much!!! I have a project I'm designing, but felting is completely new to me. This art quilt I'm planning will now have dimension with this technique. Thank you again!
I have 2 questions. Can you use felt back with broadcloth top to get the 2 layer felting embroidery? It looks great on that denim you use so my fear is that it won't come out as well on a less dense fabric like broadcloth. My second question is are we limited to designs that specific to felting or can we use nearly any design?
@@nkha23 I think the felt with broadcloth would work, but the best way to find out is to try it with some scraps. You can use almost any design. I think that designs that are more open look better than dense ones. Also, keep in mind that the design will be reversed.
What is the difference in the look of using roving or actual felt using the 2-layer method? If the roving design have more depth? Fuzzier on right side??
With the roving, you get a free standing item like a leaf or a flower you can attach to a wreath or whatever you wish. You wash away the stabilizer and all you have is the shape you created. With the 2 layers of felt or fabric, you end up with a piece of fabric that has been embellished. Here's a link to a photo of a leaf made with roving: business.google.com/photos/l/04492897958057916525?hl=en. Here's a link to a photo of a pillow with a snowflake decoration made with two layers of felt: business.google.com/photos/l/04492897958057916525?hl=en. I hope this helps.
Will the clear needle "cup" fit for a Group 1 machine? I'm thinking of using this with free motion on my Husqvarna Viking #1 machine from the early 1990's (Group 1). I know the #1 is not an embroidery machine, but the felting looks like it could be done with free motion. I realize the feed dog cover won't fit either, but I think they made one for my machine. I'd just need to find one. I wouldn't need the bobbin blank because my machine doesn't have a bobbin sensor. Thanks. Dawne
@@dalenemcdonald-mcdonaldsse8689 Fabulous!! Thanks "sew" much!!🥰 I'm also in the process of obtaining a Designer 1 from a local sewing machine store who got one in trade. Do you know if the "cup" part fits a Group 7 machine too?
I have used regular designs that are not very dense. If you have the Viking or PFAFF software, you can convert designs to felting designs or make your own.
Thank you I have a topaz 50 and just ordered the felting kit and magnetic frames. I have embrilliance but I assume that maybe freestanding lace designs might work best? What is different about felting designs? Just not as dense?
@@dorisamstutz5888 There are 3 types of felting you can do. One is using wool roving. Those designs need to be specially digitized, and I don't think you can do that with embrilliance. They work kind of like a knockdown stitch if you know what that is. Freestanding lace designs would work well for felting two pieces of fabric together or for pushing lighter denim threads from the back to the front .
