I first knew of Hussain Ali Juma in 2018 or so. He is from Bahrain, the GCC. My friend Mark Boyd who owned strong gym and Emirates strength at the time had a strongman competition in 2019 and Hussain came and competed. He was 18 year old at the time. Mark Boyd borrowed my steel Inch (78 KG) as a bonus lift in his competition. I also jokingly said if anyone can lift it I will pay him a $1000 but should be on video. I meant it but it was a joke because I felt they won't lift it with one hand.
Long story short, Mark told me only one lifted it and it was the 18 year young Hussain. He said he didn't just lift it, but rowed it way up high to his face. He is super strong with big hands too. That same year (2019) we had a grip competition with Laine Snook and Lucas Raymond attending. I invited Hussain but he already left the UAE.
3 years forward he came to Dubai and I saw his story he was here. I invited him to my Grip Temple and he told me he is leaving tonight. A year later (last week Thursday the 31st of August 2023) he finally made it. Hussain is a good guy and fears God before anything. He is 22 years old today. He is married at this age which shows how committed and serious he is. As for his stats, he is around 186 CM, 9.1 inch hands, 9.6 inch wrists, and weighs 140 KG. Let's say, strong is strong.
A day before our meeting he was doing heavy deadlifts (over 400 KG) and a day before then, he was doing heavy farmers walk with 200 kg each hand with thick grip (fat gripz?). He also did other strongman lifts like log press.
He never trained his grip directly. It is all carryover from his powerlifting and strongman training. So the famous "without training" here means without direct grip training. It is also fair to say he told me his right hand forearms was hurting a bit. I believe him because his muscles were so tight and he needed to release it and dry needling it.
So on his first day he closed the CoC #3 in the novic fashion. I showed him a bit about setting which he did get a little and closed it harder. He also closed the #3.5 easily and almost a #4 all with a wrong technique which makes it harder. That was crazy strong! Praises be to God. I believe if his set was correct or it was a slightly easier CoC#4 he would've closed it. I was pleased to still be able to close a #3. He then complained about his forearms flexors. I know that pain I was going through it in the past. Just needs releasing of the muscles. We then went to thick bar. He lifted all dumbbells as if they were nothing. Literally. He went all the way up to the Millennium dumbbell. That was crazy. He lifted it like so what is that. I think with one month of grip training he will rep it for 10. He then lifted the world class blob50 so easily and moved on to lift my slick, sharp 2 35's pound plate. He ended up with a easy anvil lift.
Hussain is super strong and I wish this young gentleman the best. I believe with the right sponsor he will surely break Eddie Hall deadlift work record as he already can do over 420 KG. BE sure to follow him in Instagram.
