I was wondering about the status up there. BTW, the yard is the RCR TAYLOR Logistics Yard. It is in Taylor, although the water tower belongs to Hutto. It sits on an easement granted by Talyor when they annexed the land which includes the Samsung factory site. The City Limits run along the road alongside the lot, perpendicular to the main line. There was a traffic backup elsewhere which caused a temporary shortage of Autoracks. Looks like that has gone away for the nonce. Good to see you shooting again, we missed your perspective.

Those do look like Nissan Sentras. I believe they're built in Mexico and probably offloaded from the trains here and distributed from here or taken to the Houston distribution hub.

It's still perplexing to me why they do this many steps. Is it really so hard to have a rail connection to Giga Texas and load cars in railcars directly, then maybe assemble them into trains in Hutto? The current process, especially when ramped up to 1 million production per year seems insane

The feasibility of a rail loading facility at the factory was discussed. There was a possible ROW between Manor and GT, but the interminable delays, plus all the other issues of such a project pretty much put the kibosh on it. Shipping cars 8 at a time does seem quite inefficient, indeed.

A better skill was recognizing the taillights of a CHP cruiser hanging out in the far right lane on the California freeways. Driving five mph over the limit in the 1980s would have you coming up on the rear of a ticket machine. They were courteous, though.

The point about getting the cars out is not about the end of quarter, but about efficiency. Any manufacturer wants to minimize the time between when materials or parts are delivered and when product is sold. Sitting in a lot feels like wasted time, though they need to batch up enough that trains are waiting to fill up, and you can see a train moving in the video, so I think they're moving out pretty efficiently. My OCD gets frustrated when we spot cars set aside at the factory for long periods of time like we used to see at the testing and calibration lot.

I don't have to imagine, we had a bad hailstorm come through at the Calgary yard. There were a couple of Mercedes in the yard. On very close inspection we found some very shallow dents that were hard to see. That was when Dodge had the Intrepid model out. We dragged all of them to the overflow yard and Dodge brought in every dent specialist in South Alberta in for *weeks!* There were a few Suzuki Swifts in as well. All I can say is they made very good golf balls.....
