SIR - You are God Send Help. THANK YOU A MILLION AND I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU. My situation was the Inside Air Handler or Evaporator Blower motor wouldn't turn on, while the outside compressor condensing unit will turn on. I was afraid that the air handler motor /Capacitor / relay would be the culprit and perhaps even the controller board. I have changed the motor / cap and relay on the condensing unit but never messed with the Air Handler Blower or the inside unit and was dreading it. Your Video saved me from no telling what kind of an expensive ride I would have had with those AC repair service surprises. Mine is a 35 year old Goodman unit and probably doesn't have the ECM etc since it is a single speed motor. I watched your video in full and was going to go step by step. I followed Step 7 (the thermostat) first since it was easy and never knew thermostat could cause an issue while allowing the condensing unit to come on. I removed the Battery, measured the voltage was reading 1.334 and was hoping a new BATT would help. Guess what i put a new battery and the Fan handler came on and the AC is working now. Never realized that thermostat showing to be in working shape could cause this. May God Bless you for your Great Service and Once again a Big Thanks to you and you are TRULY GOD SEND HELP. One question sir - Is it normal for the condensing unit to come on first and the Air handler fan to turn on after a 25 second delay. I dont think it was like this before. Is this some symptom of some thing coming... Thank You.

You got my attention at 8:50 with your yellow magnetic jumper wire. Never seen these anywhere before and I see Amazon has them. I troubleshoot a lot of industrial machinery and with most of the terminal strips there is no way to attach a meter lead and a person only has two hands. I was going to make some of these leads and bought and received some small neodymium magnets. Another thing is why a person should use a bleeder resistor instead of a screwdriver to discharge a capacitor is because some capacitors have an internal fuse and if you use a screwdriver you run the chance of blowing the fuse besides blowing the tip off of your screwdriver. Great job.

Thank you for this video. I am having the problem of number 2 on your list. Today I replaced the run capacitor and it worked great for about 45 minutes. Tomorrow I was going to check the ohm ratings on the speeds. I would have really been confused when the ohms were checking out fine. Also I did notice little almost blackish particles all over the insides, must be the resin that used to be on the windings.

I am an electrical engineer that enjoys your RU-vid videos and a subscriber thereof.. "MFD" rating = microFarad; it would be more correct to call this the capacitor VALUE, not the capacitor RATING.. Normally the "rating" of a capacitor is its designed maximum operating voltage, not its capacitance. And suggest "10.2 OHMS, rather than just "10.2" But great video.

@@omardiaz7237 , I actually agree with Dane. Although this is a really great instructional video (and a great instructor teaching it), the clarifications that Dane gave in his comment were justifiable. If someone who is watching these videos relating to HVACR is actually wanting to increase their knowledge and become an 'expert in the field', these facts represent logical truths. So it is only fitting to elaborate further on the subject by 1) explaining what the readings on the multimeter represent, and 2) differentiating between what the 'rating' and 'value' is in relation to a capacitor. 'Take a chill pill.' is something someone who is ignorant and lacks understanding would say. And, to elaborate further, the word 'ignorant'doesn't mean anything other than 'having a lack of knowledge on a particular subject. Right now, I am ignorant in the field of HVACR. But I think all of us watching these videos are learning to not be. 😏

The capacitors on PSC motors used on compressors and fans on outdoor HVAC condensing units are always energized on most units. There is typically only one contact that opens that prevents the unit from running, but the other 120v feed is always energized. Does this arrangement actually contribute to wearing out the capacitors?

Question on the ECM module: I have a bad module and want to replace it. It's a GE ECM2.3 CP03. I see a lot of comments saying that the ECM needs to be programmed correctly from the factory. The replacement Lennox kit appears to be 10M08, but is over $500. Can I use any GE ECM2.3 CP03 that I find on ebay instead? And would a CP02 or CP04 also work? Specs for these seem difficult to find online

Thanks for sharing this info. I replaced my blower motor several years ago and it has worked fine until this year. If I put it on fan on constant and it starts it will run for ever until I turn it off. If I leave it on automatic it may or may not start when the compressor runs. I'll check these points you have shown us. I only work on this stuff every few years and I have put this off for months just letting the fan run constantly and wasting a lot of power. Getting too old to crawl around in the attic have had four knee surgeries in the last two years so I have plenty of excuses. LOL!

Then, it didn't turn on after the gas, but just gave a louder than normal hum? But, if I manually spin the blower, that will get it going? Am I missing anything? Thank you, again!

Hi, perplexing problem. Old X13 motor ECM module blew, all speed taps dead. Replaced with reman X13 motor and it worked...left and came back 2 days later and it was also dead. Measured at motor plugs: 220-240V line voltage L1, 2 to ground was good: low voltage (it was 29V, an issue?) from speed tap to common was present. Haven't had time to check other taps. Any ideas? Thanks. BTW, there is a 1k resistor in parallel to taps from G wire (fan run) to common. Is that to smooth signal or bleed voltage?

I have central A/C and is working fine. I noticed today when the outside unit shuts off the inside furnace which blows the air stops at the same time. I never noticed that before, I thought it would run briefly then stop. Is that normal? Thanks!

What about the blower motor reset button? Or does the light switch mounted on the side of the furnace pretty much do the same as a reset button?

Got a Top-10 ECM blower motor problem vid by chance? So my package RTU's CFM ECM blower motor's frequently speeding up/slowing down/speeding up/slowing down and turning off completely only to start back up; all during a single cooling cycle. It's acting up more so in the late afternoon and evening hours. Does the same thing in fan only mode, too. Takes several minutes for the motor to come on at times, even in fan only... kinda weird. Clues? Great channel, BTW... thanks!

So sorry this is happening again. I wonder if one of those mobile home roof coatings would work to seal it up.

Question: Hi my condenser fan motor would not turn on all I heard was loud humming and the motor was extremely hot I couldn’t touch it. I checked starter capacitor for the fan it should be 7.5 microfarads mine was 4.3 I changed it and everything worked fine for a week then same thing happened. I gave it a push on the blade with a screwdriver and it still wouldn’t start, I checked the capacitor again it’s good, I checked the resistance of the fan motor black to orange wire 23ohm black to blue 22.4ohm blue to orange 45ohm, I also megged it with (fluke 1587) black, orange and blue wire to fan motor housing at 500V and got 550mohm of resistance on each winding. Also my motor shaft has about 1/4 of play in and out I’m not sure if that’s ok? From reading stuff online all of the electrical checks seem to check out do you think I should change the fan motor? Thank you.

Is it normal for the condensing unit to come on first and the Air handler fan to turn on after a 25 second delay. I don't think it was like this before. Is this some symptom of some thing coming... I am going to may be lube the fan blower if there is a lubing option available as a preventive maintenance. Thank You.

What about Dual Capacitor systems without a cap on the blower motor? My blower seems to work periodically, and it doesn't have a capacitor. It has 2 cable harnesses that plug in; one with C, L, G, N, and the other with 1 2 3 4 5. I checked and the harness is getting steady 123v, but when I plug it into the motor it sparks/pops, so what could be causing that? The motor has a removable butt plate with what I assume is a thermistor. A second cable with a 3 prong harness plugs into the motor on the inside.

8:47 I jumped R to G then ran down to the basement to watch/listen. After ab 20 seconds, the 120/24v transformer emitted a bright blue flash/pop. I cut the power after that. Does this indicate any specific diagnosis that would be helpful in my now imminent conversations with hvac technicians?

Great video. I have a question. The motor at my home runs only when it's cooling and heating. When I only turn the “fan on,” it doesn't work. I changed the thermostat, same issue.

@@robertadams6017 I didn't find a solution. The blower (furnace) runs only when I set the AC to cool/heat. With “fan on”, it doesn't work.

Thank you for the post. I have a question for you, or anyone knowledgeable here. Last week I scheduled a seasonal maintenance for my rental property AC unit. A tech I've used in the past went out, completed the maintenance and sent me a report noting that, except for some minor issues, largely dirty radiator coils, the unit was running fine. A short time later, really about 2 to 4 hours later, the tenant called to tell me the unit was not working. I had the same tech go out to look. He reported back that the Blower Motor had failed and would cost $700 to replace. He claimed it was an unlucky coincidence that it failed the same day, a few hours apart, as his maintenance. I of course would like to be as lucky when playing the lotto. What are your thoughts? Is it really luck or good old negligence?

So confused. My handler worked perfectly and suddenly won’t power on. My dog knocked the drain pipe that includes the shut-off float next to it. The float wire may have got tugged. I’ve turned breakers on n off and same with outside unit. Any ideas spring to mind?

Those ECM modules are $$$$$. Take care of them by 1. adding surge protection and 2. not overheating (overworking) the motor/module via air restrictions (i.e. restrictive filter(s), bad ductwork).
