Using my favorite weather data tool (ashrae-meteo.info), I demonstrate some of the ins and outs of actual historical humidity data from 'sunny' Florida, 'frigid' Minnesota, 'dry heat' Arizona, and the 'Rocky' Mountains. Hope you enjoy the nerd out as much as I do.
I donated to the guy who runs the site, and I hope you do too!

As someone who has lived in Minnesota for 20+ years (& have lived in Southern climates as well) I can state that YES you do need some dehumidification up here for a few months & not just in the basement.

I appreciate the effort you put into teaching people these little-known facts! It's always a good 30 minute conversation with clients and others every time I have to explain about 'grains', simply because 99% of people have never heard of it, and it takes a minute to let it sink in so they can understand it.

Arizona here. We get monsoons in the fall; plenty of moisture here! Also, more on humidifiers please. Jeffery Siegel mentioned he gave up on dehum in 307 and I've been meaning to ask about it.

Great video Corbett. I can mostly follow along as you walk me through it but would be 100% lost if you set all the information in front of me and said figure it out. Happy to see your business is doing great. Thankful to have someone as intelligent and humble as you are and makes it ok to ask more than likely a dumb question without worrying about the ridicule. Hope everyone is well. Grace and Peace Slick

Could you explain further why you'd need to humidify in Boulder in the summer? When you took into account Boulder's high altitude, the HR went up, which made it look like there was more water vapor in the air to remove, which would lead to more of a dehumidification load.

In the Minneapolis scenario after your Red Calc infiltration result, where did you did the "magic" 65 number you subtracted from the ASHRE data? What is the 65 number based on or from?

One of your best video explainers yet! Two questions, does this work in reverse for humidification and is there something you can point to for that magic coefficient?

Subjectively, I can state that we need air conditioners in Winnipeg, Manitoba due to humidity in summer but we don’t need them in Edmonton Alberta in summer because it is a dry heat. And yes I am Canadian and my subjectiveness is 30 years living in Edmonton and area and 10 years living in Winnipeg and area.as an adult.

OK.. I say this as someone who agrees with you... but I always challenge what I hear with what I think I know... There is a reason people in Boulder or Phoenix say they dont have humidity... its because they live there and know what their body feals..... What your asking is for people to ignore their lying eyes ( or body) and trust your math.... So ultimately my questions is, what would change in a persons perspective once a dehumidifier is installed in these area's? BTW, I live in northern Florida near Gainesville, my AC cools the house but not evenly and in the night my room gets warm and humid.. often I set the thermistat well below what I would want (like 68) to help dehumidify our room and keep it cool....its a 1985 manufactured home with an oversized AC... which is great to cool it when hot... but like you said durring shoulder seasons, we get high humidity inside........ BUT would someone in Boulder or Phoenix feel what we feel??? I kid of doubt it...... But am willing to be corrected. Thanks for all the nerdy details

Another excellent video! 👍👍 I can keep up with your explanations about 98% of the time, but that other 2% has me like 😵‍💫😵‍💫! 😂 I’m in South Florida, so am curious how many pints per day of dehumidification Key West would need in your example. You only shared for Minnesota.

Speaking of math, Boulder has an average elevation of 5,430 feet, not 9,828. What does that say about the accuracy of the ASHRAE website? Or am I missing something?
@HomePerformance
@HomePerformance 2 месяца назад
It’s the particular weather station, not an average
@MichaelJ674
@MichaelJ674 2 месяца назад
I love your videos and love that you are sharing the knowledge you have gained from real world experience on RU-vid, but that seems like a really dismissive answer. You’re saying the weather station for Boulder is 4,400 feet higher than the actual elevation of Boulder? That’s higher than the elevation of Breckenridge (for example) and within 300 feet of Leadville which has the highest elevation of any city in the US! I apologize for belaboring the point, but that seems like a significant math problem for someone that works hard to utilize accurate data to engineer accurate solutions. My issue is not with you; it’s with the integrity of the data from ASHRAE. I should frame it as more of a question than an implicit accusation. Is this just an anomaly or is the ASHRAE weather data suspect either because the weather station isn’t proximate to the listed city, the data entry isn’t reliable, or some other problem exists with the data? Respectfully submitted.
@HomePerformance
@HomePerformance 2 месяца назад
Did not mean to be dismissive, merely quick. You’re 100% right, bad info in = bad info out. I’ll bring it up to Dmitriy who runs the site and see if it might be an issue with ASHRAE or with his map application. @ASHRAE-calc

@@MichaelJ674 Hey Michael, I see the issue, the weather station is not downtown Boulder, it's called 'Boulder 14 West' and it's out in the mountains, for some reason still under Boulder jurisdiction. Maybe a research facility or something. Downtown is spot on 5300 ft.
