I have watched, no joke, probably 10+ hours of videos on guys showing how to paint with HVLP and this was THE most useful video about gun setup by far. I think the biggest thing is that you showed what happens when the settings are too far out, which is extremely easy to do when you're new. Most guys just show "always set the gun up like this" which is hardly useful for DIYers who don't have access to a paint booth or live in more extreme climates. Thank you!!!
Thank you from the UK. I am a first time user of Spray guns and as a lady DIYer, I can honestly say that this was the most useful video online. Feeling way more confident about doing my various paint projects now.
Thank you for making this explanatory video. In 8 minutes you have given me everything I need to know to feel confident about using my new HPLV set up. Possible the best 8 minutes I have ever spent on RU-vid.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I started working at a new pastry shop where they actually use spray guns like this to spray chocolate glaze on the cakes, and was making a huge mess on them because no one could teach me how to properly adjust the controls!!! so informative and well explained, and love how you show the difference between the low and max setting on each control. THANK YOU!! ❤
After watching paint gun set up videos for 3 hours, you appear to be the only guy on YT that can actually explain how a gun works and why. As an engineer I’m all hung up on facts and details. This video was VERY informative. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge!
I want to add my compliments for a very well done video, to all the rest you have received so far. I won't repeat all the reasons everyone has found your video helpful, but they all apply. When I find a truly useful video on here ( and not all of them are certainly ), I think it is good to tell the person. Thank you for taking the time to make this !
IDK if you'll ever read this comment, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. 🙏🏻 I'm new to painting with a gun like this, and was having trouble with dry paint ending up all textured and pebble-y. I watched dozens of YT vids, but YOUR video SAVED my project! A 1955 GMC pickup truck I am restomodding. Especially the part beginning at 2:11. Thank you for explaining this so amazingly well! I applied an AMAZINGLY smooth, glossy coat of single-stage black urethane on my pickup's roof last night. And honestly, that's been the toughest part to paint with primer to date. This morning, it looks like black glass. Just amazing! Thank you again so very much! 💙💙💙
NOOB here. Buddy of mine just shipped me all his equipment. (7 different guns, compressor, box full of paints, and a stand.) Painted canvas, draw with paint markers, but never used airbrush. Thanks for the video.
Probably the best video on how to use an HVLP spray gun. I was attempting to spray lacquer for my cabinets and was getting frustrating. This video might be old but still very helpful.
I watched like eight videos on it how to use one of these paint guns and I cannot lie yours is the best of all of them! Thank you for not wasting so much time!
Great information tom. I'm an industrial sprayer I spray window frames for all super markets, Mc Donald's, wickes, KFC. also ceilings, cladding on industrial units. We use hvlp turbines on window frames and while getting a brilliant finish they ain't as quick as gracos air assisted, airless pro finish
i bought a California Air Sprayer and it came with bad instructions. Your video hit it right on the head when it comes to training! It's great for a beginner sprayer. Thanks a bunch for this video!
Finally a video that punches straight to the point! All the facts laid out and the "why" to each usage. Appreciate such concise video, thanks for this!
Thank you so much! I just got my first paint gun and just didn't understand clearly how to use it. I've watched videos and it just wasn't clicking. I watched your video and it all clicked, made perfect sense! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm subscribing to your channel. I love how you break it all down. Made it so much easier to understand the tool.
This is the video I've been looking for. All the other spraying tutorials on RU-vid left me with unanswered questions and wasted time. You're the best, thanks!
my coworker said i need to leave you a thumbs up, subscribe and leave a comment letting you know this is the most useful video we have ever seen. Thanks
Awesome presentation...As someone who has been spraying since the 80's I appreciate how you clearly and succinctly you explained it all...Thanks for taking time out of what I hope is a wonderful life filled with health, love and happiness >...Doing all the stuff...:)
So with the experience you guys have what exactly is the main difference from a gravity HVLP and a conventional spray equipment besides the amount of psi pressure?
Tom you ought to be a professor, bro. Your students' passing rate would be damn high! You killed this. You've answered question I didn't know I had and ones I had but didn't know enough to properly formulate the question.
Omg thank you for this video. I work at HF and I been wanting to buy this little gun for a project I’m working on. This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for !
Bought the kolbolt version many years ago to paint my one tractor. Its been in a box and now i need to repaint my trailer and couldnt remember what knob did what. Thanks for the quick clear simple explanations of it all.
I have a folder with this video saved in it. I paint so rarely that I always need to come back to this to set things up. Painting the iron fence tomorrow and once again, this video is exactly what I needed.
Thank you. Great explanatory video. I’ve got 3 new guns I got from tcp global in a kit and I’m going to spray some old steel truck rims. I feel like I have a good chance of doing a good job now.
Been in the coatings industry for over 20 years and have never used HVLP only airless! Have decided to purchase and learn HVLP spraying this year. Thanks for the great videos✌🏽
Thank you sir, this is my first to use an spray and having trouble with job, I found your video and I will follow your instruction, so I do hope that I can fix my job
Wow. This is the best spray painting tutorial I've seen! I wish I had found it before I painted my car, three days ago. I made the mistake of using about 28psi when the gun has a 1.4mm hole in the spray nozzle. I did that despite the manual saying to use 40psi, because some other people said they like to spray using 27-28psi or 28-29psi. They must have been using guns with smaller (maybe 1mm) diameter spray nozzles. The result was having to use the gun at about 6-10 inches away, instead of 20 inches, as in the user guide, due to the pressure being too low. The paint also ended up rather rough, so I'm going to have to use a cutting compound to smooth it down, after the paint hardens.
I've been considering using rattle cans or an airless sprayer to paint my 1965 Ford Galaxie. HVLP just seemed too complex and I didn't get any smarter watching a lot of other RU-vid videos. THIS video is what I needed to know - how to USE the HVLP gun. Reading boring directions is one thing but seeing a live demonstration is far superior. Now I will use an HVLP gun which will give me a much better finish than any other method. Although, some guys HAVE painted their cars with rollers :)). I suppose some guys have even just thrown the bucket of paint on their cars, too, but I think I want something a little better.
Thank you for sharing tips and tricks makes it easier to know what to do to get started on some basic stuff 👍🏽I have used it a long time ago on the dash of my truck. I mixed up rustolum paint thin it then just went for it. The hardest part of the whole thing was prepping the dash so when the black paint went on it would look good. No one knew the difference when I parked it at a car show. Auto paint black for a small can was $80.00 conpaird to $8.00 can of black paint of RUSTOLUME. I wouldn't use it for the out side of it. I would buy inexpensive paint before I would use RUSTOLUME I've seen it done but you could notice it looked like a really cheap paint job on the car. You can wet sand and buff out the Orenge peel. There is a video of some guy cutting and buffing but he is a professional that wanted to show it could be done not to count in the factor of how many car's and truck's he's done in his life time.
Use a 3/8 hose at less than 50 ft. 1/2 in hose over 50 ft. Use a high flow qd on your hose connection, also put a diaphragm regulater at the paint gun. The hiflo disconnect will improve your panel matching. 50 pound air max!!
Really well done video! Explained it perfectly. (I like your drawing on brown paper trick. I think I'll use that method, also!) Thanks for posting this.
Thank you man, compared to other videos on RU-vid this was super clear and super informative. I'm wanting to get into automotive painting and this was really helpful.
Job well done sir! Like others on here said! With little time this video was very informative! I started this job a couple years ago painting robotic dinosaurs that involved paint guns. I actually learned by messing with it myself not ever touching one before. So I decided to watch a video to actually hear someone with experience breaking it down and you did amazing! I actually learned more by you! Thanks! 🤙🏾
Great video. Explained the how's and why's without any flashy graphics, loud music, unnecessary filler. I'm going to be spraying latex, I'll check out your other video(s) but this is very good start. Thank you
