HW-100 Restoration and demo

This is a non-technician's approach to restoring a Heathkit HW-100 transceiver - admittedly not a challenging example. There were a few hiccups, like a shorted B+ voltage caused by a grounded resistor (a lesson for us all - check your work!), dead receive in LSB caused by an errant crystal and a failed carrier null pot. I don't like repainting these rigs, but I did it here and was fairly happy with the results. In the end, this rig (barn-stored for decades) is now ready for years of service. Let's keep these boat anchors on the air!

My first SSB rig was an HW-100 I built while in the USAF in the early 70s. It worked OK except for the VFO drive that tended to slip.

Built a few heath kits in early eighties. Never heard of this type of clearing.

Hi, I have also restored a 101 and a 100. My HW 100 plays better then the 101. My HW 100 needs a VFO Knob so I had to make a reduction drive knob for it. Did the same wash job also. Thanks for your vid and time. Green lives for ever! AB1ZI

Great video! Thanks! This brings back memories of building a HW-101 and a couple of WH-12's. I'm currently restoring a SB-200. I'll be contacting you about the paint options when I get to that stage.
