At HWPO HQ, Sammy caught up with HARD WORKER and pelvic floor physical therapist, Christina Prevett. Prevett, mom of two, specializes in high-intensity exercise (specifically CrossFit) during pregnancy, returning postpartum, and rehabbing pelvic health issues. She also has published research on heavy lifting during pregnancy and uses this research to help pregnant and postpartum mamas navigate exercise through her program, the Barbell Mamas.
In this conversation, she and Sammy chat about Sammy's pregnancy so far and how female athletes can tackle their pregnant and postpartum fitness.

I have been disconnected for about two years from what’s been going on with Mat and Sammy. Back then I was very excited about what was going on in their life together. I was just waiting for when they would start their family. Today I decided to see what was going on with them and to my delight Sammy is pregnant. I can’t wait until the baby is born. Now, as far as the video topic. Very grateful for it. Definitely a subject that needs to be discussed and information shared. I’ve been concerned about this very thing and I think it’s going to benefit a lot of people.

So glad for pelvic floor discussion. My child is 7 and I am just now figuring out that I have been compensating for the emergency C-section with my obliques and upper abs since. Literally could not figure out how to contract my lower abdominal muscles, thought I had been the whole time. So glad for my pt

I am so stoked to hear all of this. When I first started having babies there was absolutely zero guidance for pregnant athletes, and it’s so incredible to see that things are starting to change as athletes I’ve admired start to have their families and create a demand for this kind of information. Can’t wait for more research!

Thank you SO MUCH for this discussion. I am thankful that health experts are starting to conduct more research about pregnant women and lifting. I train in Olympic weightlifting and I was advised by my doctor that it isn't safe, while my Physio and trainer had no issues with it. Its so hard to navigate this all, and seeing as women are lifting more than we ever have, we need more guidance on this. Thank you for providing your perspective Sammi and Christina. This podcast was extremely help for me, as I navigate my first pregnancy. Also, PRing your snatch at 10 weeks pregnant, Christina, you are a Rock Star.!

Very informative, would love to hear more about this topic in the future. Also specific information on what kind of pelvic floor exercises to do pre- and postpartum to strengthen the pelvic floor.

This was awesome! Wish it was three times as long I don’t remember fatigue with my first pregnancy but w my second and a baby to take of, it was intense. That being said, I absolutely love being pregnant. Supplementing with magnesium and Vitamin D3 helped night and day!

I feel the meatball sub comment to my core. I’d never had one but then saw someone with one and immediately knew I needed it. Now it’s all I want to eat! 😅
