It's fun and helpful to see what gear you carry. I've been using a hammock for years and love it. Don't have to worry about level ground, keeps me above any wet depressions in a storm and I sleep much better. I used to use only knots for my set up but Dutch makes such light and convenient kit that I've been converting over to his webbing and hardware. Thanks.

Looks like the quilt is sewn in at a slight angle. That’s great because lying at a slight angle perpendicular to the center line allows you to flatten out while sleeping. Very interesting design. 👍🏻

Can we just talk for a second about how satisfying that *pop* when the needle case was opened was? I had one of those pack frames as a kid, but it was missing all the important canvas bits, and I didn't really understand at the time what it was, other than it must have been a frame for something, and that it must have been missing something. I'm going to have to see if I can find it, and rehabilitate it, and build a little bit of pass through storage into it.

yesterday ( sunday) morning i woke up after spending the 1st night in my Hemlock Mountain Outdoors coyote hammock. just as i was unzipping the the bug net the cinch buckle at the foot end gave out some how and hit the ground with a thud. i would have been a great blooper.

The old wood pack boards are awesome... I have 3. I ditched the axe a long time ago and won't carry one without conveyance and a need for heavy chopping work. My Silky Bigboy 2000 paired with a heavy blade machete will out perform an axe for the same carry weight! Thanks for the video...

I just recently started watching alone and just hit season 3 and was excited and disappointed my 2 favorite RU-vid guys. You and Greg Ovens I haven't seen it yet, and I want both of you to win, but that's only possible if you were on different seasons. That's my disappointment that only one can win. I'm excited to see how it plays out.

What do you use for a general gathering bag(s) depending on the time of year? Right now it's kinda spring time. Some greens showing up, strawberries, honey berries will be ripening. Then there's dry tinder, fiber for cordage demos, and other things for class.

Not much will go bad in just a day or three. Freeze what can be frozen and take it that way. It will be fine thawing slowly in your pack. Find someone who raises chickens and get fresh eggs, they don't require any refrigeration!

People have stepped off trail and gotten turned around...and died. It can happen!
@darrinrebagliati5365
@darrinrebagliati5365 24 дня назад
@@asmith7876 I don't deny that. But where I live and play there are logging roads all over and they lead me to the places I like to play. Most of the forests are too thick to get a decent bearing and there's almost no way to see and identify significant landmarks to use a map. I do have maps and usually carry a compass or 2 but have never used them other than to make sure I know how. Since I don't fly anywhere, I can't see a situation,I would be in, where I wouldn't be close to something that could lead me back to 'civilization'. I'm not saying that they aren't good skills to have, just saying that IF I was in that kind of situation, there are other things that I would draw on to get me out. Like go downhill til you find water/road then follow the water/road to people. As to the hiker who stepped off of the trail and got lost: would a map and compass and nav skills have helped them? Not denying it COULD have, just asking if it WOULD have?

People underestimate a tourniquet until the day they need one. Some brothers of mine helped victims in a car crash a few months ago because they have them, and they know how to use them (that's important too). The paramedics took some time to arrive. Imagine that. We never know.
