In 7th grade you could try all instruments in the band. The score was out of 25. I scored a 23 on the drums and 10 on the trumpet. My best friend played trumpet and I thought I could go over to his house to get lessons. I haven’t been over to his house since and it’s been 3 years. I wish I had chosen the drums and I regret choosing trumpet.
Just want to thank you Eric, i graduated high school in 98 and was drum captain in our marching band, havent played since. After watching your videos I decided to get me a practice pad and some sticks. My band teacher was a trumpet player so ofcourse we didn't have to learn any rudiments and our parts werent that complicated. I wish I had your videos and the internet when i was in school but i didnt. Learning all this stuff all over again is challenging when you dont have others around you learning the same things and to motivate you to do better. Great vids, keep up the good work.
Very understandable story. I am currently in Drumline at Osborne High School in Georgia. I came to Osborne because of a program there. Long story short, I live in an area 20 minutes from the school but 2 minutes from another school. So going 20 minutes to the one I go to is definitely worth it. We do show style band but corps style is good on tenors.
Could you do a video on how to properly play using a traditional grip? ive watched other vids on here but none of the others really break it down into where you get the control from. Not sure if that made sense but i feel my grip is a hot mess.
I’m in the broken arrow pit and Zach Schlicher came in a few times to work with the Drumline this year. Such a nice guy, one of the few staff I wasn’t afraid to talk to back when I was a freshman. My freshman year, I played xylo and drumset for the USA themed show that we did. Zach helped me get the timing down on the third movement where we played a swing tune at 204 bpm. It was so intimidating to me as I was a rookie that year, but with his help I got the music down. We scored 4th in nationals that year, still to this day incredibly proud of that season.
Yeah ... Waiting for my "First" Heart from Eric! 😜 ... And also waiting for Vic Firth to list Eric's "Sphincter Flams" Rudiment on Vic Firth hybrid rudiments page! 😘
@@specialgamer2789 practice the boston crusader’s 2022 rudiment sheet and if you can do all of those (not even at full tempo) with decent sound and technique you can play basically anything
It is amazing how your videos are entertaining and interesting, even though my only experience with drums is some recreational playing lent drumset (my main instrument is bassguitar). And thus although I learnt nothing I could really use, I still liked what I saw, thank you
Eric I have to say that seeing you with a beard has been different indeed. I did notice a little grey in that beard this morning, and it actually didn't look bad. Great fun seeing you with a full bushey beard.
Is a tu-charles not just a flammed 5-stroke? These are super common in many European systems, including Swiss and Scottish stuff. As far as I can tell you called the flammed 5 a flammed 5 only when the roll was first. Nice chops as usual
A grace note is the notation of flams and drags while a flam is a note followed by a grace note. Grace notes are played lower than the bigger note. Glad you asked. Happy Drumming
With over 600 named hybrids (at least) this video could have gotten absurdly long. Maybe there are 1000, but I personally have a list of about 550 and I know there others that I don’t have listed. It gets a bit absurd. Of course, the nonsensical size of the list of hybrids isn’t alone. There are 300 or 400 non-hybrids from either historical sources or other countries’ rudimental systems. And I’m not saying I’ve heard of everything that’s out there either….😬
Do you poke a little hole in just the top ply on your tenor heads? It gets rid of some of the weird overtones, and I can't tell if you did it on all your drums or not
I think RU-vid's doing that thing where they secretly unsubscribe people for some reason...I was absolutely subbed to you before but I wasn't when I clicked on this video.
The thing is you can create as many Gmails as you want and do the same functions for each one. So if RU-vid created many incognito accounts just to boost subscriber count well then that’s just what it is
There's a rudiment that I've never seen used that I've "created" called a Blam. It's a flam but the flam note is a buzz. Much like regular flams, they make everything else significantly harder when you add them to other things.
@@mrafflin Yeah! It's kind of interesting to me that it's not common, especially with DCI, because it's so simple in concept but opens so many doors to other rudiments. Take any rudiment with a flam, make it a blam and you get a completely different sound with a hint of extra difficulty.
@@Max-dd4ow That seems to be more common than I though. It's a very interesting idea. What I love about the flam note being buzzed instead, is that it's sort of like a crushed ruff or drag instead of a specific rhythm. I'd also assume that it's a lot easier to start rhythms with the blam since the room for error is slightly higher.
Video 8 of Loopy Grandma asking Lil' Peanut to play Wipe Out by the Ventures!!! Maybe be dressed as a Surfer Dude? with Surfing special effects! ... I know you are very creative, so I expect something EPIC!
Hey EMC productions I was wondering if you would make christmas cadences as my band is going to he performing at the fiesta bowl in arizona on December 18th!!! We have alright cadence but if you could make some music that would be not terribly difficult and fun for the Christmas theme that would be awesome!!!
He says at 0:36 that there are 54 rudiments and that this video will only review some of them. I'm sure book report will be rated in a forthcoming video! 😘
Jim-Chu-das…..Eric, you let down Jim Ancona, the UDrumline, and most of all yourself for not including a hybrid that mr Ancona blessed us with. Unreal.
Video 5 of commenting until Eric reacts to my former high school's drumcorps and Steven to react to those flub-centric corps in my area. Ngl I can't even do a proper double stroke roll due to being out for like 5 years let alone all of these rudiments. I'm planning to buy a practice pad this christmas btw. Hopefully I can still spare some cash to buy some waifus for motivation.
I know I’m late by a year or two. I just wanted to inform you that your “SPHINCTER FLAMS” pretty much already exist as “FRENCH FLAMS” which is a hybrid rudiment.
I would please love if you could give me a buddy rich warm from slow to fast I subscribed to your station please please give me a slow to fast buddy rich warm up thank you boom
