Awsome man!! got 2ft hybrid willows in feb. just put them in some potting soil from the glass jars of water. In 2 weeks of water in front on the window I had 6-10 inch roots. Cant wait till the first of may to plant permanently
@dynamitenola1236 excellent question! Unfortunately the outfitter I installed these for sold the property that fall. I was not allowed permission from new owners to film the followup.
Hybrid willows work great for tall screens but the deer do love to browse them! Same with poplars! But silkies not so much, they just don’t reach the 20 feet mark for height, more of the 8-12 feet! ~Big Rock Trees
Great Question. Hybrid willows should for the most part hold their leaves well into November. With that said, however, you want to have a minimum of 3 rows of these trees spaced a minimum of 5' apart in staggered rows. This way after the leaves do fall off the dense branch growth should still enable beneficial screening whether your screening stand access, screening road frontage, etc.. I hope this helps answer your question.
I understand your concern. Although I've never had or heard of it becoming am invasive problem. I have seen hybrid willow used as effective windbreaks in the Dakotas without adverse problems of spreading.
Unfortunately, the farm these trees were planted on was sold the following fall and is a land locked property not visible from the road. So I have no knowledge of their progress.
