The identification of crucians often causes problems. I hope this video will steer people in the right direction in figuring out which ones are the true crucians and which ones are brown goldfish or the various related hybrids.

thank you very much for your time making this video. i really appreciate your wisdom. Gibel carp has absolutely demolished crucian carp in my home country- Lithuania. I remember i caught 2 or 3 crucian carps when i was a child. never again since then though. Sadly it is very rare to catch a crucian carp here. lakes and ponds are dominated by Gibel. I dug out a 12 cubic meter pond with plans of somehow getting my hands on some crucian carps, breeding them and releasing to some ponds and lakes near me. digging out 12cubic meters of clay was the easy part, now i need to get some crucians...

In the UK genuine crucian carp are still available to stock but from what I gather gibel carp have supplanted crucians widely on continental Europe even though the native names for crucians eg 'carassio' (It.) are now being appled to gibels. Good luck with your project.

Enjoyed catching crewies when I was in my teens. Used to be plenty in pond 2 Rowthorne. Not sure if theyre still there. Caught some hybrids to 7lb at the Smithy Pond in wingerworth whilst carping. The only places i've ever seen them.

There are still many waters that hold true crucians and some far-seeing clubs and owners stocking them.
