I am of the opinion that Hyde is actually the reincarnation of Kuon's good half. If you look at the image of Kuon before he became a Re-Birth, he looked extremely similar to Hyde. We know that he also wields the Insulator, and most people are pretty shocked by the fact that Hyde has it since it was assumed to have gone missing after Kuon's transformation (or that he still had it in his possession). The fact that Hyde can wield the Insulator at all is in part because Vatista grants him the ability to subconsciously. This means there could also be some merit in Hyde immediately covering for Linne by claiming she was his sibling upon their meeting. Would also explain why Linne and Waldstein feel so comfortable around him, and why they mention is similar to Kuon. His name being "Hyde" may also be a reference to Jekyll and Hyde, and that he is the other half of Kuon. We know that when an In-Birth goes through the Re-Birth process, their past self is effectively "erased" and they are replaced by a completely new being. We also know that both Linne and Kuon were granted forms of immortality - with Linne's being her unwilling body snatching of young girls upon death. What if Kuon's form of immortality were to be reincarnated with no memories of his past self? The writing and design in this game is all so top notch, it gets me so invested. Really can't wait for UNI2 now that it's been confirmed
Here I was thinking I was going to have to break the silence of UNI having little to no story/character analysis content on YT and you make a 26 minute video of Hyde. Very nice work on the editing, did you plan on working on the other characters like this? Also Hyde's theme is technically called "Scraper Sky High" and the translation of that conversation with Hyde and Phonon was pretty rough but I assure you that what they're actually saying is even dumber and funnier.
This is supposed to be my final video (for some clarification, watch my previous video). As much as I would love to make a character analysis for everyone, I unfortunately can't do that. In a story that has a bunch of weirdos with complex motives and reasons, Hyde is (or at least WAS) just a dude. The protagonist doesn't even wanna be there, he wants to go unnoticed, or in other words, be an unknown actor. His fatal flaw, was dressing up as an anime character. I mean c'mon, what the fuck is that hair my guy? You're practically ASKING to be urban fantasy'd. Great video btw! We need more UNI appreciation nowadays!
Dude what can I say, this video really is a treasure. From the small tribute to Etika, God bless his soul, he was genuinely one of the most positive people I've ever seen in my life, and his vids were a constant source of joy; what would I give to have been a friend of his. Then, the spotlight you cast on Uni's genuinely underrated story and localization: seriously this game bangs and there's still so much shit we don't know about the world and the characters and the setting... people don't really talk about fighting game lore outside of the usual "Guilty Gear/BlazBlue's story is nuts!!" kinda vids. Which, fuck yeah, I love both GG and BB's stories despite the convolutedness of both, and especially the characters. I found out about UNISt just by kinda stumbling on a match between top players and holy shit the sense of STYLE this game has, it's like a mid-2000's light novel and I love it, the character bios in the VS screen, the round start and round end being 1st CLAUSE and VANISHMENT OF VOID, this shit is sick, and me being a sucker for main protags, Hyde caught my attention really easily. He's a lovable gentle dumbass that is burdened with absurd power ( which is also reflected in-game by the fact that his sword, which erases EXS, deals way bigger chip damage than any other character) but vows to use it responsibly. Not to mention the fucking spirte work which is great, and only enhances the gorgeous character designs. I really appreciate the fact you made this video in the first place, and the touches of editing plus the arcade mode reel isn't something you see people do often, it's unique. Sorry if I kinda gushed my thoughts out, more people need to play Under Night, and I was really hoping we'd finally get a sneak peek at the new version Raito talked about 2 years ago during this EVO Japan... god knows we need that fuckin' rollback. That was one hell of a Novel. But seriously, I couldn’t agree more with your thoughts on the game. It's visually stunning to look at. The music is fantastic and the characters are all fun. I'm not really a fan of visual novels but games like DDLC, Blazblue and Unist convinced me otherwise. As for Etika's Tribute, at first I was scared to include that in the video because of how sensitive the topic is. But if it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And the influence he had on me when I was still in high school is indescribable. I wish I met him atleast once. Joy-Con Boyz for Life. The purpose of the video isn't just to describe Hyde's character, but it also serves as a beginner’s guide to the lore of unist. So that if a Newcomer buys the game after watching my video, knows atleast a little bit of the lore without ruining the entire experience of the game (from a written standpoint). There are still Ideas for the Video, that didn't make the final cut. For example, I wanted to talk about how Hyde is wielding the insulator, but I decided against it because that would be too much information which we wouldn’t really need. Just went into UNI2's network mode probably for the finally time. This game is SUPER dead! As in 0 people are online playing it at all. It took a total of six months after release from having some kind of player base to absolutely none. I swear, that must be some kind of record. What a waste of money...
Kinda sad for this to be your last video, but you did go out with a very good one! Under Night's characters were a lot of what really drove my passion for fighting games into overdrive, but there's so little content on the game I still don't really know what a lot of these characters are about beyond the surface stuff. This video was very appreciated, and glad to see you at least went out with a pretty decent success going off the views! Here's hoping Sistema Celeste really makes the under night fandom grow
This week was a revelation for me to found out that there's going to be a sequel for Under Night In-Birth, like I literally never knew about a sequel being made.
While i do like the rivalry between Hyde and Seth, part of me wished Hyde and Orie had a vs theme as well. Iirc, they are the only 2 characters who fight each other in their respective stage 6. Plus their not so subtle feelings for each other.
Well, you're TECHNICALLY getting rollback now!... even if it's for the sequel and who knows if they're keeping the roster or if they're starting from scratch with new sprites and so on, but we can hope!
resident rabid hyde kido fan who has been sent this video like 5 times now checking in. this has to be like the best character analysis i've seen of him in...ages really which is definitely a feat considering how much of a nothing character he can seem to be at times. only things that i can really nitpick about here are just stuff that no sane person should be expected to know (like devblog stuff or things that go plain unused) which is totally understandable as this is just a basic rundown on the guy. the only thing worth mentioning that isn't TOO insanely spoilery might be the fact that if i remember correctly, unknown actor, console ST's opening theme, has its lyrics written from hyde's pov which does add a decent amount to his character as well as. like. an additional 10 death flags give or take. that and also i need to mention that he's just straight up making terrible whip-related puns in the jp ver of his interaction with phonon which don't translate quite as well to the english version. also absolutely thrilled to see you included a bunch of clips of his dialogue because his voice actor(s) did an absolutely amazing job. anyways rambling aside, holy hell this is good. big fan of the editing and the way you explained everything is easy to follow along with. really good video about a really good boy. also you might be the only person who i have ever seen pronounce waldstein correctly
Honestly this series got me into indie fighters. Though my exposure to anime fighters was with Guilty Gear and Blazblue on the psp along with Big Bang Beat. It did inspire me to create a new gaming series that help others escape from this stressful reality

Oddly enough. If Under Night's sequel does actually happen I'd love to see Hikaru from Chaos Code or Rouga Big Bang Beat were revealed as new guest characters. So those fighting games get the attention they deserve. That or just get the love they deserve
Hyde Kido deserved better than UNI2. I watched this video a few months back because I really do like Hyde a lot (So much so, I joke around with my friends that he is my son lol), but man. Look at how they massacred our boy! The game is fun, sure, but UNI2 can't seem to decide how to end Hydes' story since he gets MULTIPLE endings. Hyde's arcade mode ending made me...confused? Concerned? Why does his artwork look like garbage? Our main protagonists story pretty much ended without much fan fair, and I think that's why I hate how French Bread handled the story of UNI2 personally. I'm sorry for the long essay, but UNI2 really did disappoint me in many different ways. I'm not big into video game novels (in fact, I kind of hate them in general) but I felt UNI2 would have benefited from doing a video game novel type of thing instead of giving multiple characters different endings. I specifically hate the most that Hyde and Gordeau never once speak throughout any of the games and to add insult to injury. Hyde DOES fight Gordeau in his arcade mode...but the speaking lines were given to Hilda...AGAIN! And I already have an issue with Hyde and Gord not getting a unique conversation in BBTAG because if you didn't pay for the DLC, you only got four UNI characters and Gord was the only one that didn't have a conversation with Hyde in battle...but they gave him and Hilda lines though! *Grumbles in frustration* I guess my biggest complaint is I wished more characters interacted with each other. The first two games really took the time to build the world which I thought was great...the payoff? Not so much. I guess I was expecting more and, well, that's not what we got. They shouldn't have rumored this game as a sequel when it really isn't one. It's only a sequel as far as the arcade mode is concerned...but that's really it.
Brother, I know exactly how you feel! I have criticised UNI2 many times over the past few months. While there are a ton of things I can still say about the game and the direction it took, I wouldn’t do it because it will contain more words than the bible. I hate what UNI2 represents as a whole, and I can’t support that.

I...kind of think the UNI community can be a little full of themselves when they say "UNI2 will change everything!"...and yet. No one is playing the damn thing. I WANT to play UNI2, but I can't because no one is online to fricken play it! Then people on RU-vid tell me to "join the discord" only to realize that the beginners room is not only dead, but French Bread somehow, SOMEHOW, BY SOME MIRACLE did not make UNI2 cross console compatible! *Bashes head against a wall* How do you do that, like, legitimately??? That's why I hate when the UNI community says that "this is the greatest fighting game of all time," but also forget that they need to, idk, GROW THEIR COMMUNITY instead of saying how great everything is when it's really not! (I will probably get a lot of hate for saying that but, it's not like I didn't try to play. I did, multiple times...) Everything (to me anyway) is so inferior to UNICLR in almost every possible aspect. The artwork, the music, the lack of things to buy, the UI, god the UI I can't believe they left that shit like that. Even things like not having one of the UNI characters pop up with their voices when you boot the game up is sorely missed. Other than some gameplay aspects, everything is worse...like, almost everything, and everyone says "Well their a small team. You can't blame them." Yeah, they were also the same small team that built UNICLR from the ground up, so why is that the excuse? Sorry, rant over. Like I said, I could do a whole analysis on why UNI2 failed, but the fact that the community is brushing it off saying that everything is fine as long as you join the discord. Yeeeaah, for me, that gets under my skin, especially since I tried to do that and still couldn't find anyone to play that is my level. UNI2 is also not beginner friendly since new players pretty much don't exist here and I knew that would be the case since the track record of niche fighting video games when it comes to this is pretty consistent...
@binxthebinx6575 I've been echoing most of the same opinions myself. I always ask the simple question of: Is it even worth buying the sequel for 50 bucks when it’s an inferior version (in almost every aspect) of the previous game. I bought UNICLR twice and still spend less. So already this doesn’t look good. Most modern fighting games have this issue where they try to pander to the more casual audience and fail miserably. UNI is no stranger to that. That’s because it’s designed as a competitive game. There is nothing wrong with having a game that is like that. But if you try to introduce a casual audience, you need something appealing to that audience. Not to mention that the players that consistently play it, aren’t making it easier for casual players to get into it. There are some noble players that do want to teach new players by making tutorial videos/guides. But let’s face it, casual players don’t care enough to watch or learn an entire game, if the game couldn’t teach the player in the first place. Games and their communities have a straight forward relationship. Let’s use Pokémon as an example. There are people that like the battle system because it is simple on the surface and easy to navigate. These people consider joining the competitive community, where they learn more about it's battle system, meta, stats, and other stuff that a casual player wouldn’t look at. And they wouldn’t need much time to understand it either since it isn't completely unfamiliar to them. The game gives you enough knowledge to beat it, and the community gives you more information about said game. A very simple but good relationship. Now let’s look at most fighting games. Even if you did, every tutorial/combo guide, you aren’t guaranteed to win against everyone. Even bots might be a bit too much to handle. Because the best way to learn here, is to lose. This alone drives people off because no one likes losing in a game. And the community doesn’t really help it either, because most players will say that losing is the best way to learn those games. So already this relationship isn’t healthy for beginners at all. Like I said though, there is nothing wrong with having that relationship. But they pretend to be beginner friendly to invite new players into the game/community when it’s not. And eventually this reflects on the lack of growth in numbers. I totally understand your frustrations with the game's direction. I've been there too. And it’s especially frustrating when a lot of people are distracted by a new shiny toy. I'm always glad to read comments like yours because I can tell that you care a lot about the game and it’s community. Sadly, they aren’t helping themselves. And if the devs, and the community don’t care that much about the game, then why should anyone else care? Sorry, that was a bit long. And the worst part is that this whole thing is not nearly enough to get my thoughts out. Let me hug you, because I'm glad to find more people that are aware of the same issues as I am.
@@dekuplus The "best way to learn is to lose" mentality is something I was told a lot by people on the UNI discord...and I don't agree with that statement at all. Yes, losing is part of learning the game too, but for me. I learn fighting games best by experimenting with move sets and combos in a not so serious match...you can imagine how difficult it is to do that when pro players pretty much beat you down no matter your rank. It's not that I don't want to get into fighting games, but I know I will never be considered a "pro player" and may not understand each move from a character frame by frame by frame...but I still want to play and that's why it's so incredibly frustrating! I think the main reason why I get so pissed off by this is because, in a funny way, I like Gordeau as a character a lot (Hyde being my second favorite.) A lot of what I am about to say is one half the writer in me and the other half just admiring a characters design/backstory like Gordeau's. I just hate it when a character is created with a fricken awesome design and amazing backstory...and then they never follow through on anything else with them. The fact that UNI2 will more then likely be the last game in the series and THIS is how there going to end everything REALLY sucks! I picked up UNI2 after putting over a thousand hours into BBTAG because Gordeau is one of those characters that got me to play the game. The fact that French Bread is not planning to do anything more with their characters after this is such a waste. UNI, to me, has hands down some of the best designed characters I have ever seen. There really isn't any other game like it. In fact, I HATED Hyde at first because "oh look, it's another Japanese school boy, chosen one protagonist. Man, haven't seen that one before," but after I started playing as him in BBTAG and learned his backstory in UNICLR, he's now my second favorite character in UNI! I guess this is the main reason why I'm just overall ticked with how the game turned out. French Bread had many good ideas in UNICLR that I felt SHOULD be marketed more. That SHOULD be pushed to more fans so that maybe, we can get a manga, an anime, hell, even more merchandise would be nice!...But they don't and I will never understand why. If they are so proud of what they created, why does it feel like they don't care enough to share their passion to as many people as possible? I don't think we will ever get an answer but that laziness definitely shows in UNI2...
I said it before UNI2 came out, and not much has changed from then. I guess the only major thing that happened is that I view UNICLR in a more critical way. I didn’t think the game was perfect but I chose to ignore most of the negative stuff because the majority of my experience was positive. This also includes a lot of the lore. If you would ask me a year ago if UNI was one of my favorite games, I would say yes. But today, not so much.
I was reading the... UNIB-verse Wiki months ago, probably why this went under my radar. It wasn't created at the time. I've been reading BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, Persona and UNIB's plots for World Building. And so far I think UNIB's the one that's near the world I already created. That said I still need alot of information regarding the UNIB-verse, plus the announcement of the coming "Brand New" game and not a revision of UNIB exe late:st clr or whatever if I said it right.
