This is a live stream to help better understand how to use the Mutant "PW-ASM"
This is one of the most powerful mutants in the hydrasynth but often misunderstood. To get this preset you can join the Facebook group / asmhydrasynth and find it in the Files section.

"Puppies make the harmonics warmer." Can't argue with that! Just got my Hydrasynth Deluxe and am looking forward to diving into it more. I appreciate that you have been doing so many tutorials both here and on the ASM channel. Thanks, Ken.

I'm about to dive in to the Hydrasynth rabbit hole at the end of the month. This video has cemented that decision. Would love to see more

Note to others: this patch is in the files section of the Hydrasynth facebook group (he mentions this halfway through the video but you may want to start with having it.) Thanks Ken!

I don’t even own a Hydrasynth and lot of the explanations and jargon is way above my comprehension but I still found this very interesting. 👍🏽

Ken, I just want express my extreme gratitude for this upload. I thought perhaps the the LP Gate was justxan approximation in slope but you clarify rathercthat the algo considers the Env generator modding it. I didnt know the algo was so dimensional. Fantastic. Now I an curious about the other newer models as well. I dont own a proper modular. Have a 0-coast but it's funny because i first encountered vactrol terminology from the great soft modular Madrona Labs Aalto structure. Hey,..an additional huge thanks for in-depth on the ASM custom style PWM. This really got me thinking and inspired. This is one of the more sought-after Hydra videos i have longed for. I don't use Facebk so i an very bummed that as an avid user/patcher that i cannot take part in the wealth of Community there with you guys. I am sure there are great things being discussed. Again, thanks for choosing to share this stream. Have a blast with your new friends there 🐕

Hi Ken nice technique here. I have a question for you i've search the web for answers but with no result. I've made a patch with Ring-mod and wavescan osc1 as the modulator source 1 scanning thru a selection of smooth waveform at low rate (-36) and osc 2 with more complex wave. The problem is that i think i hear aliasing in higher note.I'm curious to ear your take on that. thanx!
@Fluxwithit
@Fluxwithit Год назад
Depending on what you are doing you can absolutely create aliasing. One of the joys of the synth is that it is not trying to be something it is not. It allows you to go into “break up” territory. It allows you to play with the quirks of digital instead of keeping you restrained in the sweet spots .
@HalfGodHalfBeast
@HalfGodHalfBeast Год назад
would you consider the hydra as a good percussion synth, it sounds like it from this?
@Fluxwithit
@Fluxwithit Год назад
Great for creating percussion and then sampling it. I wouldn’t say it’s strong suit is sequencing it in that way because it is a monotimbral synth. But for making drums from scratch and sampling those for later use, yeah amazing.

@7:30 You showed the macro for mangle (the subtle one) and then you kept using morph saying it was the subtle one, but you never showed the macro for morph and later, 11:25 when you said you were going to do the more "complex" one you are turning mangle which was the more subtle one... :(

The mutants are a good example of inefficient design. Not all of us are MIT grads. How you set up the macros for the mutants,,,That’s how the mutants should’ve been set up in the first place. The micro freak is a good example of power in simplicity - it offers you all these different sort of “mutants”in the synth engine but with just a few perimeters - but they’re so powerful because you have less options - but those options really get you to all these sweet spots. This is why STEM sucks. Because without the creative arts...
@Fluxwithit
@Fluxwithit Год назад
I enjoy the freedom , I get the desire for dumbed down stuff though. Makes things more safe. Love my micro freak (did some of the factory presets for it) but Personally I love the exploration and ability to go beyond safe though. There is something about allowing one’s creativity and intelligence the freedom to stretch beyond sweet spots. Sweet spots are great for when you want to just fit into a mix. Wide open design is great when you are crafting from scratch. When I use something like the prophet 5 which is pretty much all sweet spot vs the Jupiter 6 which is more bit picky and goes outside of those sweet spots , I tend to create very different musical pieces between the two.
@GrootsieTheDog
@GrootsieTheDog Год назад
@@Fluxwithit I agree! Thats why I love my Hydra. I would say though that there is an assumption that it's "safe" to have simplicity in design and that its "Dumbed down" simply because its not complex.
@GrootsieTheDog
@GrootsieTheDog Год назад
@@Fluxwithit There is also a paradox - there often is more freedom when there are some limitations to work within.
