In the UK we take the ability to drink from 'wild water' for granted. The assumption is that if the water is high enough up the hill, fast flowing, and looks clear, it must be safe to drink. And while, for the most part at least, that's true, it only takes one slurp of bad luck - be that a dead sheep upstream, some unseen agricultural wash-off, or irresponsible toileting behaviour from your fellow campers and hikers - to make you very, very poorly. And if you're travelling abroad, or need to collect water from a water source lower down the hills or from a potentially stagnant lake, the risks are even higher.
Luckily there's a simple solution, and it's one that LifeStraw know all about. Their Peak Series range of water filters have been designed specifically for hikers, campers, cyclists, runners, and anyone else needing to make water safe in the great outdoors. In this video we take a look at the new and expanding Peak Series and give three of their products - the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter, the Collapsible Squeeze Bottle Filter, and the Gravity Filter System - a test-run in the water-rich Lake District.
