Wow, Mike! That was a scary story! I hope I never have to come back to watch it again. I think I would drain the oil again, just for the odd chance that some shavings found their way in. Thanks for sharing!

Good day eh!!! I'll tell ya i was just about sick when I saw the hole all stripped out. There was nothing I could do but stare at it for a while. Glad I found out about Time-sert and I would suggest if anyone has an issue like this, don't even think twice, just get a Time0sert system and get 'er done!!! I was thinking about draining the oil again and that is a good idea. Thanks for tuning in and for the comments. Take care!!!

So glad all ended good! It is great to have friends who can help and know what needs to be done! It definitely looked like a three man job! Great team doing the repair!! I know I was relieved when I heard the tractor start up again after the repair was finished and oil put in! We couldn't get along out here without the Massey so great you, Glen, and Anthony were able to make the repair!!!

I have to say my heart smiled when the tractor started. The repair went very well. We got the hole drilled out nice and square and true and the tapped hole was just about perfect. If you looked up "Inserting a Time-sert' in the dictionary you would see a picture of this job!!!

How's she goin'? Well Jason, this solution was top notch. It was fairly easy to install, although I was happy to have 3 sets of eyes on it to make sure it was square when were drilled it out!!! The tooling is top quality and would recommend Time-sert highly!!! Thanks for tuning in and take care!!!

How's she goin' Tom? The Time-sert went in pretty easy, but I was very glad to have my buddies on hand to help me out with this one. It is a very good system and I think this repair is way better than the original threaded hole in the aluminum. Thanks for tuning in and take care!!

How's she goin'? Without a doubt Joseph, I would recommend the Time-sert system. It's pricey to be sure, but the repair is very easy to make and very permanent. My dad and grandad always said that if man made it it will fail. Our job is to correct the situation and upmost MAKE IT BETTER THAN NEW. Words I will take to my grave. TIMESERT EH. Now it is you educating me my friend. First time I have heard about this fix indeed ! I do see some benefit over Heli Coils but that price tag is a bit hard to swallow eh. No matter as it worked. Your company knew how to work together as I can see any alignment issues would have detrimental effects for sure. Great repair from some knowledgeable fellas working together. Your baby lives eh ! WOOHOO !

Hello there Dean!! I had not heard of Time -sert before either, but when I checked them out I was impressed. A much better thread form and, even though we had 3 guys on the job, it was a pretty simple repair. It looks good and professional too. The tool is expensive but it's high quality and you could tell it was a good tool when using it!!! But it is expensive!!! Thanks for tuning in Dean and I really think this repair, like you father and his father said, is better than the original!!! Thanks for watching and take care!!

@@GrampiesWorkshop Anytime I put in a Heli-coil I used red Loctite. Once it was fully cured I run a nice/sharp tap to clean up the threads. As far as I know I have never had a failure but it takes extra time. I do like this Time-sert. The insert is far heavier/thicker and that reamer/seating tool is brilliant. This is a common failure I have seen many, many times. As far as I am concerned the casting should have a steel insert right from the get go eh. I am sure when the word get's out you have that particular size you will be able to recoup your investment. Say charge $150.00 plus traveling time to go and do one. Either that or sell it outright but be very careful about anyone borrowing itas you well know it will likely come back damaged in one form or another. I'm glad it worked out for you bud. Your baby survived to plow another day !
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 года назад
@@TomokosEnterprize You are dead on there Dean!! I have had an offer to buy the kit and I just might do that. The milling tool that cuts the shoulder allows for the thread insert to come up against it and that stops the thread insert form going in too far. Then the insertion tool does it's thing by reforming the thread and forcing them into the material that was bored out for the insert. A really neat system. I also used red Lock-tite on the thread insert!! Take care!!

Although we haven't run into that crisis with our Massey, it's great to know what to do if this issue happens. My husband is going to order the Time-sert just in case he needs it in the future:) Better to be safe than sorry. Excellent video, Mike! Glad you found a solution. How's she goin'? Well Nancy I have to agree, I have awesome neighbors around the lake here. The Time-sert system is top notch. Very high quality tooling and it's an easy system to use. The key, I think, is getting the drill square when you drill out the old drain hole. After that, well I think even I could do it!!! LOL I hope you never need to use the system. Don't over torque the drain plug. I wish I hadn't!!! Take care and thanks a lot for the nice comments.!!!

How's she goin'? Dave when I saw the stripped out hole I just laid there under the tractor for about 5 minutes. I didn't know what to do. All I knew was my tractor couldn't move all because of an M14 bolt!!! When I decided to get the Time-sert, of course I had to order it. Well Amazon responded and said, the part has shipped but may be delayed. What a feeling of despair. But luckily the part came in and with Glen and Anthony as helpers, we got the job done. I'll tell ya, the Time-sert system is awesome. Very high quality tooling and it's simple to use. But I as glad I had some helpers to make sure we got the hole drilled out nice and square. All good in the end Dave and we're back at it now!!! Thanks for tuning in and take care!!

Mike, I had a similar problem on my snowblower. My snowblower has an aluminum engine block. One of the mounting holes for the starter motor galled out. I did not pay what you did for your kit. I ended up using a thread rivet insert kit. I got mine at Harbor Freight. The same one can be purchased in Canada at Princess Auto for around thirty dollars Canadian. I paid around twenty five dollars US. Worked really good. I just had to run a tap in it and then install my insert so it was square when it went in. They work surprisingly well. Very good video.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 года назад
Hey there Vicky!!! I was looking at that type of system too. But when I saw the Time-sert it looked to be a more permanent solution. What I liked about it was it had a steel thread. I don't mean to say the thread rivet insert isn't a good solution. It certainly is less expensive. But I only wanted to do this repair once and thought the Time-sert would be the way to go. LOL Thanks a lot for the comments. It's interesting to see how many solutions there are for issues and problems we get into eh!! Take care!!

Hello Mike. It's unfortunate you had to do the fix but luckily it was a relatively easy repair. When doing my first transmission oil change I sheared off the head of the prefilter overtorquing it when reinstalling. Luckily my dealer had one in stock so I was back on the road soon. It might sound odd but I wouldn’t worry about the shavings. The internet is full of stories about people finding metal shavings during their first 50 hour HST service. I have found them myself in new tractors during the initial service. Apparently the manufacturers don’t spend much time cleaning the cases after the machining. They depend on the filter doing it’s job and catching these pieces. Lots of people, including myself,have actually found curly shavings in the filter. Seems odd to me but that’s how they do it. Doesn’t ever seem to cause any damage. Having said that, I would have taken the same care as you did to try and keep them out. Have a good one.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 года назад
Good day eh!!! I was concerned about shavings and chips being left in the transmission. But I don't think there was any. Glen did a good job cleaning it and the grease sure helped to capture the chips. The preliminary screen filter is on the 'suction' line to the hydraulic pump and I agree with you, that any chips, or foreign n matter in the transmission, is caught by that filter and saves the pump. The aluminum is pretty soft and probably won't damage any transmission parts, but I wouldn't want to get any in the pump itself. Thanks for tuning in and take care!!

How's she goin'? No problem Greg. Man my heart dropped right on the floor when I found this drain plug was stripped. Then my neighbor Glen suggested a Time-sert. This is an expensive tool but well worth it. You drill out the hole and insert a steel thread insert. It is held in place with thread locker. Then the drain plug threads right into it. I think this repair is better than the original. But I will still be very careful the next time I take the drain plug out!! Good luck with your GC1705. They are great tractors eh. Well, I'm glad this all worked out for you Mike. No doubt, those types of unexpected repairs are indeed nightmare inducing lol. I don't understand how that drain bolt could have become stripped...was it installed cross-threaded by the factory? Time Sert...I'll remember that if I ever need a good re-thread sys that's for sure. I was thinking you could have also poured some diesel fuel into the trans to simply drain out any metal fragments. Thanks and cheers!
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 года назад
How's she goin'? We were pretty confident that all the chips and shavings were out of the transmission. The grease on the drill and tap did a great job at capturing the chips!!! But flushing with diesel or even more hydraulic oil would be a good work practice for sure!!! I have a theory about the hole getting stripped. It wasn't cross-threaded. I change this oil every 500 hours or so. There is 1000 hours on the tractor and the last time I changed the oil was about 2 years ago. When I put the drain plug back in I probably over-torqued it. I usually do. And I think this torque on the threads for over 2 years was just too much for them to handle and they just sheared off. Tragic for sure, but I think I was the cause of the whole thing. Luckily for me though the Time-sert system came to my rescue. It is a great system and even though we had 3 guys on this job, it's very easy to install. Thanks for tuning in and take care!!!

Hi Mike. New (a week ago) GC2300 owner here from Queensland Australia. Very grateful for the thorough, informative videos I’ve seen so far. Looking forward to getting much more done on my property with the help of your knowledge and videos 🙏 Thank you I too experienced that hit the floor moment less than 30mins after getting my Massey off the trailer🤦‍♀️ PTO was accidentally engaged with no belly deck attached. Shaft spun and smashed the filter clean off the transmission housing snapping the threaded shaft for the filter in the process. Trying desperately to sort something before having to pay a bucket load for repair. $1061AU just for the housing let alone labor and getting it into and back from town. There is enough thread left to use a filter with flat/raised filter thread area as opposed to the “sunken” type. Do you know of anyway to get around this please? Or can you recommend any other suitable hydraulic filters? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and keep up the great videos. 👌🙂

How's she goin'? Welcome to the channel Sam!! I wish you were here under better circumstances though!! Wow what a kick in the favorite muscle area eh!! I'm not too sure of anything I can suggest to help you out here unfortunately. I do know, and I was told this by a Massey Ferguson parts manager one time, using non AGCO parts, like filters and oils, is OK to do. So if you can find a filter that has the same basic specs but with the thread the way you need it, I would use it with no worries. I bet a local filter dealer/supplier could help you source a good replacement. Or send an inquiry to a filter manufacturer online. I have gotten some good info that way. Can the threaded portion that the filter spins onto be removed? If that is the case then just replace that with a close nipple and you'll be good. I sure hope you can get this squared away buddy. Thanks for watching and reaching out. I hope we can stay connected. Take 'er easy!!

How's she goin'? Time-sert to the rescue!!! I wish I knew about these before all this happened. Then it would be a much happier day in the shop. As it was, I was pretty bummed out for a while but now it's all good. Thanks for tuning in and I hope your shop is growing fast!!! Take care!!!

this is when a bad day gets worse, square was a plum good idea 💡 👍 the dealer have oversized drain plugs? the must have run into this.

How's she goin'? Not sure if the dealer had oversized plugs, but they are available for sure. I didn't want to go the oversized route as I would be back to an aluminum threaded hole. With the Time-sert I thread into a steel threaded hole. A lot better. Thanks for tuning in and take care!!!

Bet you almost pooped a little when you saw it was stripped. looks like you handled the situation well. A handy tool to have in your arsenal. Just remember, almost anything that breaks can also be fixed somehow

How's she goin'? Isn't that the case eh!! All you have to do is throw some money at it and it can be fixed. On this case almost $250!!! LOL It could have been a lot worse and yes, my demeanor was sort of in a pooping mode when I saw the stripped out hole!!! Thanks for tuning in and take care!!

A great fix to a big problem. I have the GC2310 and will be very careful with that plug. You mentioned removing a guard for the hydraulic screw on filter. I noticed my filter has damage from being hit from underneath. Do you have a recommendation for a guard? Thanks.

How's she goin'? When I discovered the drain plug was stripped I was laying on the floor in the shop. It's a good thing too because I sank pretty low and felt pretty sick!! LOL Lucky for me this Time-sert worked out and it did a terrific job too. Pretty easy to use even though I had lots of help for this repair. Only real issue was the cost. As for a guard, I don't have one but it is a danger spot and the filter can easily get damaged. I don't have any recommendations but search RU-vid for examples or go on Amazon and there will be plenty to pick from!! Thanks so much for searching out my video and watching and especially for commenting. I hope you can come back soon. I'd like to hear more about your 2310. Take 'er easy!!

How's she goin'? Hydraulic lines and fittings are pretty expensive. I guess it's because they have to handle the high pressures of the hydraulic system. Thanks for watching and commenting Tim. You take care now!!!

Hi Mike. Isn't it great when crap turns into fertilizer. The only thing you might have done more was to pour your old hydraulic fluid back through to wash anything out that got away from you. Not to worry though with aluminum. I don't think they would hurt steel gears or bearings.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 года назад
How's she goin'? I am were pretty confident that no aluminum got left behind, but that is a good idea to flush the transmission out. I have already contaminated the old oil, so I think I will end up changing this oil in short order just to be sure. But like you mentioned too, being aluminum, I don't expect it to do any kind of 'major' damage. But making sure there are no shavings or chips in there is a good plan. Thanks for watching and take care!!!

Hello there Bdog!!! Yes I was happy to have 3 sets of eyes to make sure we drilled that hole good and square. We also had the 3 sets of eyes for the tapping. All said and done, it was pretty easy to do the Time-sert repair and it is top notch on my books!!! Thanks for watching and take care!!

$200 bucks was worth it for the peace of mind Mike. You wouldn't have slept well aft night after any of the other solutions that you almost considered. I would agree with Twin Brook Acres on drain ing the case again. Sorry for your bad experience Mike. A wise man once said, "For every solution, there's a problem"

Hello there Gary!!! I had heard that saying before!!! LOL I have to admit I was leaning heavily towards the 'Teflon tape and jamming the drain plug back in the hole and hope' method!! But I'm glad I wet with the Time-set!! It is a very good system. Expensive yes, but a quality tool and a quality repair. I was using the tractor all day today and no signs of any leaks at all!!! :-) Thanks for dropping by and take 'er easy!!!
