Welcome back to American Truck Simulator and today I'm driving a Western Star 57X equipped with a prototype powertrain built around a Hydrogen Fuel Cell.
In some respects, the Hydrogen Fuel Cell powertrain is configured similar to a hybrid powertrain. The fuel cell generates electricity using a combination of hydrogen and oxygen, which is fed into a rechargeable battery and an electric motor assembly, which in turn is fed to a single rear axle via a six-speed automated gearbox. Electricity from the fuel cell is not directly fed into the electric motor.
I'm experimenting with the simulation technology; American Truck Simulator cannot perfectly simulate a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain, but I've been working with this engine for some time and I figured, why not show off my progress..? What's the worst that happens...
