Interesting experiment, but I can see the potential for disaster, anything that can combust, combined with hot glass and caustic solutions is not a safe idea, there's always some idiot who would use the whole roll of foil in 1 go. Thank you for making this video, but I like your engineering and electrics better
I saw this experiment in "Big Brother", a skateboard magazine, they did in fact shred a whole roll of aluminum foil and crammed it into a two liter soda bottle, poured "liquid plumber" over the top until full, screwed the cap onto the bottle and ran. "not for indoor use, light fuse and get away"...The bottle swelled then exploded. Its where brave meets stupid, but that is sort of what skateboarding is all about.
You can also do it with just water and aluminum powder. But warning is that aluminum is toxic which is harder to manage when in powder form so you need gloves as well. Aluminum oxide protests the aluminum on most cases. Hydrolysis having aluminum power increases efficiency. Air is has some aluminum power which breathing it in can cause issues as you see the fake lines in the air. Also aluminum reacts to certain frequencies.
Caution, thermal runaway. The hotter, the faster the reaction, thus more heat is generated... I used a soda bottle of this to fill a H balloon. Reaction was so hot and violent, it shot out the bottle like a geyser, 6 foot.
i found the best way to control it is by having the reaction container (a soda bottle in your case) inside of a larger container of ice-water and optionally have a secondary "bubbler" container of mostly water with a secondary tube to fill your final tank/balloon
The sodium aluminate is corrosive and also there can be some leftover naoh, so you can not throw it away, it would be better to neutralize it by mixing with a weak acid.
Seems aluminum granules with some kind of solvent ( forgot exactly what it was ) works as a fuel source ( product is a Hydrogen in mean of fuel ) for powering internal combustion spark engines . Even the scientific group that worked on the project claimed that the reaction is reversible so you can recover initial products .
Less corrosive environment for producing H2 would be Al/CuSO4 with a very small addition of NaCl as a catalyser .The same result with Al/CuCl2 ( without NaCl) ,but CuCl2 is a more "exotic" compound than CuSO4 sold as a "root killer".End products are finely powdered Cu and a mixture of Al sulfates, probably combined wit OH groups
How do IGBT’s make a pure sine wave for 60hz? I understand that they switch on and off many times and the more they do that, the average looks more like a pure sine wave. If they only switch on and off 20,000 times a second and pulse width modulation works best when the pulses are extremely fast, how do you generate 60hz of ac?
