Wow that’s a big project to take on! I love how the whole family got involved and it all came together. You all are a great family and I love seeing the “ behind the scenes” of farming.✌️
🙋🏻♂️Devon!!! Wow quite a project to undertake... You’re father is very knowledgeable about construction!!!!! And you look absolutely gorgeous this evening 🥰🥰!!!! Have a good night and thanks for the video...
THANK YOU FOR SHARING , ive been dreaming to have my own greenhouse always in myimagination when i saw this videos i wonder if i can or cant to make it real, but atleast ive seen it on your videos. sure my dream is really big compare to my bank account hehehe.. ive keep positive till that day come
God bless hard working people. There is something about the midwest that breeds this ethic. Your father and mother are brilliant and motivated, you are blessed. I'm trying to figure out if something like this setup is profitable or if its more of a retirement type of steady income. Or is this a suitable replacement income from your previous work? I assume you have 200-400k invested plus the property. I guess I'm asking is this a business or more a labor of love? Thanks!
So we ran a construction business for almost 30 years. This does not make that kind of money and I would say you are not going to get rich, but it does provide a very nice income. We could expand but we decided after the sale of the business to not have any employees. That maybe the retirement factor in this but ROI was 3 years. You have to love it for it to be fun and profitable. Hope that helps
That was as incredible as I thought it would be. Your Dad is a very skillful craftsman, Bobby too. Your family worked so hard and so well together, that's why it is very enjoyable to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing a little of your greenhouse lives...
Thank you! That is so nice and we really did have a lot of fun doing this project together. Brought back good memories looking at all of these pictures.
Wow, that's a nice set up! I'm planning on building a large greenhouse on my property in northwest WA. I've been watching a lot of videos on the subject and was thinking of doing the geothermal system to capture the 55 degrees of ground heat to keep the heating bills down. I'm probably going to do raised beds but your system of only using water is very interesting. What would be the best design of greenhouse I could build? I'm a carpenter and would like to do as much as I can like your family did.
Great job guys. I just ran across your video and watched the entire thing. I'll soon be putting up a similar size greenhouse in Ecuador on a private ranch. The owner wants to see it work and then has promised to fund a humanitarian project in a number of large cities (Bogota, Guayaquil, Medellin, Lima, San Jose, etc.) The plan is to sell the produce to grocery stores and restaurants with take 100% of the profits and give it to people in need. I will admit that I know enough to be 'dangerous' and would be interested in talking to you and making a trip to see your operation in person to make sure I can recreate something similar. Thanks, Dennis
*re-opening this video for inspiration, because next month I will be making a small greenhouse with galvanized pipe material. thank you for sharing ma'am.*
Wow great job. I read a book once called the Broken Heart Buffalo Farm where the owner said that being a farmer means that you will have know all the trades otherwise it would be too expensive to run the farm. This video sure showed the number of trades that Doug knew. He had to work concrete, sheet metal, capentry, electrican and plumbing. He sure save more than a pretty penny for this job but needed a lot skills. Respect.
Thank you very much! For our situation and lighting, these systems work best for us. We have strawberries in our other high tunnel greenhouse. I will show them soon this spring.
wow! this is awesome....new subscriber here..looking forward to more videos...i am in southern ohio and am building a small greenhouse...also have a permaculture food forest...
Thank you so much, Tim! How's the snow down there? I'm ready for it to melt and for spring to come. I hope you have lots of fun with your greenhouse. I hope to have my own small greenhouse for personal use someday.
@@HomegrownPassion I'm planning to grow lettuces. I'm waiting for my tray order so I can start germinating. You guys have an awesome farm and I love it. How I wish we have those kind of PVC in our place. I will use kratky method for now.
Wow, blown away, I am so impressed by the work quality and the family, oops, teamwork! Where were the kids? Didn't they help? The baby is cute and cooperative!
Thank you so much! That is very kind and we all enjoy working together. The kids weren't born yet when we started building in summer 2013. The baby at the end is my oldest. He was born right when Katy started her first crop in January 2015.
Thanks for sharing the creation of the greenhouse. It is truly impressive. I wonder what it would cost to build one today. It would interesting to see an analysis of return on investment. How many years would it take to recover the cost of building it? I have been interested in hydroponics to grow food for several years. I finally got an Aerogarden for my desktop. It is nice to have fresh greens in the winter. I would love to own and operate a greenhouse similar to yours one day.
Of course and thank you! We are considering doing a financial video or talking about it in a livestream. Doug and Katy have all of the numbers. I love my little NFT system and have seen the Aerogardens. I agree about the fresh greens. Makes me happy to see them growing when it's 0° outside. I hope you get to do your dream someday! -Devon
a really inspiring video i hope you all to suceed in your efforts and achieve huge profit from your work great video and looking forward to watch your progress all the best TC
This looked like a really fun project. Lots of hard work though. Congrats to all of you. What size is your head house? Also how far is the head house from the greenhouse? How wide is the control tunnel? Looking to eventually do one myself. Thanks.
Thank you very much! I want the head house is 40x50', but I'd have ask Doug for sure. The head house is only 10 or so feet or so away so that's how long the control tunnel is. It's probably 6 feet wide. Not big at all which is why we love having the extra space in the head house. I recommend giving yourself lots of work area if you can. - Devon
My God what a amazing achievement,so much skill and knowledge has gone into this, but it looked like great fun,i can only imagine how you all felt when you had finished this, great pleasure to watch
My Dream on day would be to Create a Pool under the Greenhouse to raise FISH to create a Aquaponic system. Then have the water used to feed the PLANTS. It would create a two prong system
I’m new to the channel. I love it! Born and raised in Washington Court House Ohio. I knew I like the channel when I saw the Wright state t shirt. I just harvested my first Kratky method lettuce. The future is bright!! Keep the content coming, please!!
Great! Thank you and I've been through there before. Lived by Dayton for awhile as you could have guessed. That's awesome, and I've heard and seen a lot of good things about the Kratky method. I want to try it someday just for myself. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend! - Devon
Hello, I live in Portugal and I am very much interested in hydroponics and I saw lots of your videos. Could you please give me a rough idea of how much does it cost fully to build. Thanks.
I can't really answer because we built our greenhouse over 8 years ago now. So many things have changed but any manufacture can work with you and get a cost estimate to you free of charge.
Hi, I watch your videos a lot and I'm a fan of your channel. I'm now trying to set up hydroponic systems. Can you please tell me where you source your green houses from and if the company ships internationally?
I have been following you guys! You're doing an impressive work. I really enjoy your videos and showing the practicality and possibilities of hydroponic systems especially the NFT and Dutch bucket (which I am doing my PhD project on).
Thank you very much! That is wonderful and good luck on your PhD project. I'm happy to see more and more people learning about hydroponics. It's such a good way to grow food in any environment as you know.
Wow well done Where can I find a full step by step instruction to build my own hydroponic system .... I see many videos but need to print something I can work from to make it easier
I am watching your videos from Tunisia ( north africa) and i am a big fun of your work and your family achievements!! wish you all the best!! you look so cool and inspiring!! i just started my business plan to do a hydroponic project and happy to see people like you sharing experiences and tips! Thank you thank you and thanks agaiiiin. Send much love and best wishes from north Africa. Hopefully i can do something as good as your positive vibes
Ugg .. never use through fasteners on a metal roof your going to own for a lifetime, SnapLoc roofing is not that much more money and will last forever.
Wow. That was a lot of work, but fun when everyone gets involved. Your dad is the real star in my books. He is the jack of all trades. Without him, you would have had to outsource, and the cost would have been hefty. Well done "dad"!.
How does it work using city water for your hydroponics. Is it expensive? Here in NZ I have to use city water but have to use a lot of acid to bring the ph down. Our water is about 7.2
This was done so professionally and logically! Never saw anything close to this !!! Congratulations! That’s big achievement! Just wondering if you could share the insulation company that you buy A&B ? Thank you again for this great video !!
I would build literally anything with your husband. Man after my own heart. It's expensive to have someone else do it? Well then we'll just have to learn how to do it ourselves. Love it. I wonder if he's got any ideas on how to go about building a mobile microgreen farm. ^^
I bet he could come up with an idea for you... We are going to start showing more of his builds and projects in the videos. Right now he is building me a garage for my delivery van and then he has wants to build a shed for his sawmill. Come help him...lol
Great video of the build. This is exactly what I am looking to do with my business. Wish ya'll were closer so I could pick your brains on the systems. Thanks for these vid's ya'll rock.
Hello I also want to build such kind of green house thanks alot for your vidio Sorry but could you tell me how much time does it take and how much it costs
it took a good month to build but remember it was just the 4 of us. Im not sure how much it costs now because we bought our greenhouse and system 8 years ago. Give CropKing a call and they can work you up a quote.
Really great project of the greenhouse system. Your Dad is a very methodical worker in the detail of the build. Looks like a ton of research went into this. Very impressive. Do you have an alarm on the sump pump in case it fails. It is an electric motor with a switch is why I ask. I guess there was no way to put in drain tile to a lower site to empty.
Thank you! We do not have an alarm, but that would probably be a good investment. There is a small river right behind the greenhouse and we are in a valley which keeps the water table high. I'll have to show how close the river actually is sometime.
You guys show everything so easy, each of those projects are a challenge , congratulations on jobs well done. I have one question tough, the water source is beneath the earth, how do you clean it when there is algea or some other contamination happens. It is bound to happen at some point , right ?
Thank you very much. It was a big project, but we had a lot of fun. I will have to show this in a video, but we can totally drain the tank. We have a very long brush, and we can also hose it out. We do need to clean sometimes to get the algae out.
Bradwood Farms has had HomeGrown Passion from the beginning and certainly maintains that passion. This is certainly more than a business, you can see smell & taste it in the produce. Thank you for sharing the hard work & clean methods used to put it all together! Sticktuitiveness ! Wishing you decades & decades of continuing success your grandsons children will enjoy !
We use the growing medium from the cucumbers and beans for two rounds of crops. The tomatoes only get through one round because their root system gets so dense. We compost the old roots and growing medium and use it in our outdoor gardens.
Thanks for sharing. Good to see the heart warming professional execution. I'm a retired architect and 've been building a hydro-organic farm here in Thailand.. still having lots of works to be done. Will share some day. ขอบคุณครับ
First thank you for the video. It is a high quality project . What do you use for a slope for the various drains ? How do you clean debris out of the stone and do you wish that this were concrete also ? With the large roof areas would rainwater harvesting have been a consideration for your water usage, either for the plants or for the wet wall ? Thank you for sharing.
Of course and thank you! For the NFT channels, the need 1" of slope per 4'. I'd need to look up the plans to see the slope of the large return to the reservoir. We usually have the leaves fall on the cement when harvesting luckily, but sometimes we have stuff break off and we have to climb under there. We also get a few weeds pop up and just pull them. The stone works well, but I'm sure full concrete would be nice. Rainwater could easily be harvested, and is something we are considering to use for our high tunnel.
Thank you, Joe and I can't believe it! I've been thinking spring for awhile, and it looks like it's close. Going to tap the maples soon. Have a great week. - Devon
Wow fantastic greenhouse. Hard work and a lot of thought. I have a small 8 x 12 greenhouse I've been learning with and think about expanding. You guys really took it to the next level.
That is very neat, and I'd love to have a personal greenhouse some day at my house. It's very refreshing being in the greenhouse, especially in the winter. Thank you very much! - Devon
@@HomegrownPassion Also wondering if there were contracts set up ahead of time for the products you would be producing. I can’t see that being a build it and hope they will come situation unless someone was looking for a place to shelter money from a previous business venture.
Smashing video devon so wish a wasn't so far away id have loved to have met the family and especially dad he so reminded me of mine as he either knows everything or has a solution id love to know where he got all his knowledge from take care love to the family and hope your weather improves very soon paul x
Thank you very much, Paul! I would love to show you around the greenhouse. Maybe someday. My Dad is always working on something and likes to teach himself. If he can't figure something out, he researches until he finds a solution. Weather is starting to warm up a bit finally. We are planning on tapping the maple trees soon. Hope you have a nice week! - Devon
@@HomegrownPassion thankyou devon you dad is definitely a double of mine and a little of me .maple living here i know nothing about so will be very interesting. I did see some maple bacon in our supermarket so decided try it ..thought it was quite a strong flavour so like honey but not honey if you get me and sweet it was nice but couldn't eat alot of it .looking forward to the next video devon glad the weather is getting better love to the family paul x
