To big of a hole to fast, should have got a couple feet of depth first and then come back and opened it up to avoid the splash back. I don't consider myself an expert but that's what i do and hopefully this helps you stay a little cleaner
@@ridleyster he is saying that if you go a few feet deeper, the "wall" of the hole is much taller, and it will prevent splash-back. Going really wide just means that the mud is flying out of the hole the entire time
How deep? They are trying to find a gas main, water, hydro, telecom and so on. You go as deep as you need to. You widen out when you haven't found what you're looking for at 1,2,3,8,12 feet deep. Depth in hydro ex isn't based on splashback. It's based on how deep they are told by surveyors they think it is.. 1, 2, 3 inches will get you dirty..don't hydro ex if you don't want splash.
@@ridleyster dig a small rectangle to depth, just big enough so that you can fit 2 tubes in there. Dig the tube down on one side, dig down the other side, then the tube moves over and you keep digging down repeating until at depth. once youre at depth, then you open up. its hard to avoid splash back, but if you hold your wand out infront of you and watch the angle youre digging with, you can direct the splash to a side of the pit that youre not standing beside. Also, dont start just opening up. cut your earth into squares. make a trench line on one side to depth, make a trench line on the other side to depth, and then connect the two ends of the trnch line and you should have a 1 sq foot tower of dirt. just cut that down at the bottom so it topples then you can piece it away from there, as it lies sideways at the bottom of your put now. hope this helps!
