Der Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e.V. Dortmund (kurz Borussia Dortmund, BVB oder BVB 09) ist ein Verein aus Dortmund. Seine Fußballsparte nimmt „als Hauptsportart die hervorragende Stellung innerhalb des Vereins“ ein. Borussia Dortmund ist im Männerfußball einer der erfolgreichsten Klubs Deutschlands; neben acht Deutschen Meisterschaften und drei DFB-Pokalsiegen gewann der BVB 1966 den Europapokal der Pokalsieger (und damit als erster deutscher Verein überhaupt einen Europapokal) und 1997 die Champions League sowie im selben Jahr den Weltpokal. Die erste Herrenmannschaft spielt in der Bundesliga und belegt in deren Ewiger Tabelle den Platz 4.
Obwohl Borussia Dortmund ursprünglich als Fußballverein gegründet wurde, besitzt der Klub heute auch eine Handball- und eine Tischtennisabteilung, deren erste Mannschaften ebenfalls höherklassig spielen, sowie eine Fan- und Förderabteilung, die die Belange der Anhänger des Vereins vertritt. Mit über 130.000 Mitgliedern ist Borussia Dortmund der fünftgrößte Sportverein der Welt. Seit November 1999 sind die Lizenzspielerabteilung der Borussia, die zweite Mannschaft und die A-Jugend in die börsennotierte Borussia Dortmund GmbH & Co. Kommanditgesellschaft auf Aktien ausgelagert, die seit dem 23. Juni 2014 im SDAX gelistet ist.

Since 1974, Dortmund have played their home games at Westfalenstadion. The stadium is the largest in Germany and Dortmund has the highest average attendance of any association football club in the world. Borussia Dortmund's colours are black and yellow, giving the club its nickname die Schwarzgelben.
Dortmund holds a long-standing rivalry with Ruhr neighbours Schalke 04, known as the Revierderby. Dortmund also has a rivalry with Bayern Munich. In terms of Deloitte's annual Football Money League, Dortmund is the second biggest sports club in Germany and the 11th biggest football team in the world
