In this video I will demonstrate the techniques that I use to create realistic textures such as fur as well as explain about my choice of preferred materials when creating a hyper-realistic portrait. I use a technique to indent texture into the paper. If you wish to make one of these tools I have produced a video on how to do this: • How to make an Indenti...

Stunning! (Plus I have a massive soft spot for shepherds!) I did your Udemy course a few months ago and LOVED it - I can highly recommend it! PS glassine is great for coloured pencil work, I couldn’t be without it! Looking forward to the next video!

Jamie, as always your work is brilliant. I have been working with Uni 2mm leads as of late and I am finding them a pleasure to use, I will have to give the Cretacolor graphite a look.

Thank you. The 9H is great at manipulating dark tones and it's worth a try. I've never tried a uni so will have to give it a go

Hi Jamie again from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad). Thank you for sharing with all if us this updated video of the materials you use with an explanation on how to use them. It is very helpful! I do have a question if you don't me asking. When you finish a piece, do you use fixatives? Could you share which ones would you recommend? When I was in the US I used "Krylon Workable Fixative Spray" and worked very good with graphite and coloured pencils, but over here in Spain I can't seem to find it (and import/export to Spain from the US is very complex and costly right now). If you don't use Fixatives, how do you keep your artwork from smudging? Thank you for your help in advance and amazing art you make!!! Cheers from Sunny Spain! 😁👍😎

Thank you for the question. I don't actually use fixative as I always feel it affects the look of the picture in some way, even if it's only relatively minor, so I wouldn't know what to recommend. To prevent smudging when working on a picture I now use a sheet of glassine paper to protect it. I haven't tried it, but it apparently also works with charcoal, coloured pencil and even pastel. The great thing is it's relatively inexpensive and widely available, I also use it to protect pictures when storing them before framing. Hope this was helpful and if you have any questions please feel free to ask as I'm always glad to be of help.

Jamie, can I ask you something? Do you think that foil can also be used as a hand rest to protect drawing from smudging? I have a small A4 sheet of stiff binder foil... Do you think it will work? ...I forgot to add... I draw flat, unlike you. That's why I'm writing about the small A4 foil format. You must have a large sheet hanging.

I have never tried foil so I don't know but its worth a try and would be interesting to know if it works. I use Glassine paper as this does not pick up any graphite and also does not diminish any of the darker tones. It is actually meant for protecting artwork and can also be used on charcoal and pastel. Jaksons Art do ship overseas, I don't know what the conversion is but in the UK it only costs £0.40 per sheet and can be used again ana again.

What sort of paper do you use for the embossing technique to get the right texture for fur?
@JamieBoots
@JamieBoots Год назад
St Cuthberts Saunders Waterford 300g Hot Press I find around 300 gram is the ideal. The dog is being drawn on Arches Aquerelle 356 this paper again ist very nice but it is a bit tougher than the St Cuthberts so requires more pressure to indent the texture. Both are excelant and also accept dark tone very well. Hope this was helpful and thank you for watching.

Anda menggunakan model gambar yang berwarna..jdi bagaimana anda menentukan warna pensil pada setiap warna pada model gambar yang berwarna anda..tolong di jawab🙏🙏🙏🙏
@JamieBoots
@JamieBoots Год назад
Personally, I feel I can see more detail in a colour image plus I just look at the image in terms of lights and darks and then I can decide which tone of pencil to use. I do sometimes use black and white reference but this is only very occasionally. This is purely down to personal choice and there is no real technical reason for this. The advice I would always give to people is to work from what they find easiest, whether this be colour or black and white or a combination of both using one for detail and the other for contrast. Thank you so much for watching and for asking the question. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask. Jamie
